Today, a music question for you. Which version of Mr. Crowley do you like more? Please take into consideration that the setup of course is quite different, so concentrate on the guitar! The original by Ozzy Osbourne: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bbfGWGZ6NM The remake by Yuto Miyazawa:

A crowd peppered with ponytails, bandanas and cowboy hats filled Impact Arena last night as Carlos Santana delivered a set of soulful tunes to the countrymen and women of Thailand. Prior to Santana’s energetic performance, local legend Carabao took the stage. Santana jams with Carabao during Bangkok stopover

Well, some of you might not agree, but I know that the majority of you will be happy with this. Music from the 70s up to music in the style of those days from the 180s up to the 2000's deriving from there. If you have any contributions (and please, no Michael Jackson and other crap), please feel free to contribute! http://www.thailandfriends.com/group.php?groupid=54 Some initial discussion you can also find at http://www.thailandfriends.com/entry.php/42815-Good-old-music

We had a Top 10 guitarists thread and I think the girls felt left out. So how about listing the CDs you listened to a LOT during the past month? This is NOT your favorite all time CD list but a snapshot of your current taste in music. Mine has changed considerably during the past 5 years!! In no order of preference: Zero 7 - Simple Things (soul/jazz/downtempo/chillout); every track is solid, a real treat! Afterlife - Simplicity Y2K (chillout); superb production and great to chill out to. Air - Talkie Walkie (pop/chillout); surprisingly good, like audio candy. Massive Attack - Mezzanine (trip hop); MA and Portishead started it all. Dark, menacing and very groovy. Delerium - Karma (trip hop/ambient/world); I prefer this over Poem because of Sarah McLaughlin's cameo on Silence. Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun (goth/world/orchestral); simply spectacular music with Lisa Gerrard's siren voice. Bel Canto - Shimmering Warm and Bright (ambient/trip pop); this Norwegian duo's mature songwriting and high production values offers a great listen. Lamb - Lamb (trip hop); neat mix of drum n bass, trip hop, acoustic instruments; Gorecki gets to me every time. Buddha Bar I (world/lounge/downtempo/trance); Claude Challe's nattsy collection, CD 1 is more downtempo, CD2 is dance tracks; great fun! Balligomingo - Beneath the Surface (pop); I'm a sucker for lush female voices and this one does it for me with style.

Hi, I'm a drummer and relocating to BKK. In the USA, it's no problem to play drums at home - I just don't play too late and my neighbors don't mind. I also have band rehearsals at home and the neighbors like to listen. I have a feeling it's not going to work out like that here in Thailand - where do musicians usually play? Are there studios or can I play in a commercial space? If I have a freestanding house / villa can I play there or am I going to get in trouble with the neighbors? Any advice from musicians about where you play and how you avoid pissing off the locals is most appreciated.

Hi I've been watching a lot of Thai music on Hit Station/ mvtv channel. There is one song I'd like to know the name of. The video has a bear in a cage and a man with an afro taking children to stare ar it in its cage. Before dancing around. The lead singer has a mask of a bear on. Its funny. The only chorus seems to be - PAE LAE MEE KWAUY, PEE LAE MEE KWUAY... I'd quite like to buy this karaoke video but can't work out the name of the artist. As it is all in Thai. Can someone tell me who sings this please ? And what it is called ? Thanks.

Shadow walks faster than you You don't really know what to do Do you think that you're not alone? You really think that you are immune to It's gonna get that the best of you It's gonna lift you up and let you down It will defeat you then teach you to get back up After it takes all that You learn to love Your reflection is a blur Out of focus But in confusion The frames are suddenly burnt And in the end of a roll of illusion A ghost waiting it's turn Now I can see right through It's a warning that nobody heard It will teach you to love what you're afraid of After it takes away all that You learn to love But you don't Always Have to hold your head Higher than your heart You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better be hoping you're not so... Du du rut Hope you're not alone Hmm hmm humm Your - Your echo comes back out of tune Now you can quite get used to it Reverb is just a room The problem is that there's no truth to it It's fading way too soon The shadow is on the move And maybe you should be moving too Before it takes away all that you learned to love It will defeat you and then teach you to get back up Cause you don't Always Have to hold your head Higher than your heart You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better be hoping you're alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not alone You better hope you're not so... Du ru ru ru ru Hope you're not alone Hmm hmmm hmmmm Better hooope Huuu huuu hmmm Better hope you're not alone Huuu huuu hmmm Hooope ------------- Huuuu Huuuuuuu...what is your little hope?

I really like downloading DJ mixes from the internet. There is a good site - www.djmixes2k.com - that has some great mixes but it is predominantly trance and prog. house which I love but I already have plenty of. Now I am looking for some good DJ mixes of Chill, Deep House, Retro and Tribal. Does anyone know good sites to find these. (There must be some around - everyone wants to be a frigging DJ afterall - presumably they publish their stuff on the net.) I am not looking for a file sharing site - to download individual songs - instead I want to download sets by DJs.

I suppose it was just a matter of time .... How could they make fun of such a tragedy? BY FRANK LOMBARDI DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Tuesday, January 25th, 2005 Hip-hop radio station HOT 97 has sparked outrage across the city by airing a twisted song that shockingly mocks the 200,000 victims of the South Asian tsunami. The radio station, WQHT, was forced to air an apology yesterday after the insulting song - whose lyrics include racial epithets aimed at Asians - was played for four days last week by morning deejay Miss Jones. "We are absolutely appalled, saddened, outraged and angered," said Kai Yu of Asian Media Watch. The nasty parody, sung to the tune of "We Are the World," makes light of how the killer tsunami "washed your whole country away." Some of the other tasteless lyrics refer jokingly to orphaned children being sold into slavery. "You're sick," City Councilman Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan) fumed at HOT 97. Before one airing of the song, the station's news reader, Miss Info, who is of Asian descent, objected to the song, only to be attacked by Jones and her cohorts. "That song is really offensive to me, and I opted not to involve myself," Miss Info said. Jones replied, "I know you feel you're superior because you're Asian, but you're not." Later, co-host Todd Lyn, incensed at Miss Info's criticism, said, "I'm going to start shooting Asians." Councilman John Liu (D-Queens) said it was outrageous that the station, owned by Emmis Communications Corp., aired the song for four days. "It degrades the more than 200,000 victims," Liu said. Liu and other Asian leaders have called for the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on the station and demanded that Miss Jones, whose full name is Tarsha Jones, be fired. Jones and program director John Dimick both read apologies on the air yesterday. "HOT 97 regrets the airing of material that made light of a serious and tragic event," Dimick said. "We apologize to our listeners and anyone who was offended." Jones and six people working on her show will donate a week of their salaries to tsunami relief, Dimick said. But Dimick refused to say whether Jones would be fired.
