Recently the owner of a car accessories shop, Mr Pansuthee Meeluekit, gave his Thai ID number and bank account number to a customer who wanted to pay via funds transfer. The "customer" then used Pansuthee's Thai ID card to get a replacement SIM card which he used to request a new PIN number for Mr. Pansuthee's bank account. Mr. Pansuthee later noticed that nearly 1 million baht had been withdrawn from his account. Apparently, nobody was really interested in helping Pansuthee which led him to stage a sit-in at the National Police Office until Kasikorn Bank (his bank) agreed to refund him the money that was stolen. Now, a lot of people might be saying, "I don't have an Thai ID card" but every foreigner in Thailand has a passport and a passport can be easily counterfeited. Perhaps not well enough to pass immigration but surely well enough to fool the rep at a phone shop who might issue someone representing themselves as you a new SIM card with your phone number. And unlike the bank fraud protections you might enjoy back home, Thai banks typically don't act quickly to make fraud customers whole, if they act at all. Something worth considering.

A 23-year-old masseuse on Monday turned herself in to the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) after being implicated in an online dating scam, police said. Tidawan Kongjan showed up at the CSD to deny any involvement in a scam in which a victim was duped into transferring 190,000 baht to her account. Police say Ms Tidawan, who works as a masseuse in Sukhumvit’s Soi Nana, told them she was asked by a foreigner known to her as “Eddy” to open a bank account and obtain an ATM card. She said she met the man on the internet and had no idea he would use the bank account in a scam. Ms Tidawan decided to report to police after her name popped up in the media as a possible suspect in the scam. Last week Nawaporn Chai-amporn, a 35-year-old secretary from Samut Prakan, lodged a complaint with the CSD that she was tricked out of 190,000 baht in an internet love scam. The money had been transferred to Ms Tidawan’s account. In the apparent scam, Ms Nawaporn said a person she met online, who claimed to be “Mr Perry Franklin” from Australia, told her he wanted to marry her and would send her valuables. According to the victim’s complaint, she was advised to transfer 190,000 baht to a shipping agent named Tidawan Kongjan to pay for clearance and insurance fees to claim a parcel that never arrived. The operation is similar to dozens of other so-called “advance-payment” confidence tricks often associated with Nigerian criminals. via Masseuse implicated in web dating scam | Bangkok Post: breakingnews.

That thread about being ripped off got me thinking (that was the grinding noise you heard). The ones who do my head in are Indian looking suit sellers, tuk tuk drivers (pricks), taxi drivers who refuse to use payment meters, women who don't even try to get a job expecting the farang to foot every bill (whist waiting for tirak number 12 to land at the airport and the worst of all, chicks who try to get much older guys to give them cash for extended periods of time whilst banging every other dude with a cock. I am not talking girls working in bars either. People on these forums laugh at these guys. I met a chap recently who lost quite a bit to a girl here, broke his heart. He just spent the last 5 years caring for his dying wife and she passed he wanted to have a nice holiday and a deserved one too! His wife had been unable to speak for the last 4 years and was pretty much mentally gone, when he heard a beautiful woman tell a sob story, he told his. Over a few weeks or months ( I don't know) she managed to get him in love with her as he said it was the first affection he had received from any woman for years. So he fell for her, lost a lot. IS this guy an idiot? I don't think so. HE was a lonely dude, depressed and in need of some unconditional positive regard. Poor (not metaphorically anymore) bloke. I felt really sorry for him. These ******* need a good ******* ******* ** *** ****. If you know what I mean.

CHIANG MAI - A woman who accompanied a doctor to a hotel room, then drugged him with a substance daubed on her breasts and stole his money and car has committed similar crimes before in other towns, police said on Thursday. Police have obtained a fresh arrest warrant for the suspect, Kritaya Jomnoppakun, 26, for robbery. The victim, identified only as a doctor, told police he was lured to a hotel room by a woman he met in a nightclub. There she drugged him with an anaesthetic he unknowingly sucked off her breasts. After he passed out, the woman robbed him and stole his car. Police identified the suspect from hotel security cameras, which caught her arriving with the victim and leaving alone 15 minutes later. Police have tracked down a stolen car, which the suspect had left at the home of a friend who is also facing a criminal charge for abetting in the robbery. Ms Kritiya is already wanted for other similar crimes and several arrest warrants have been issued -- in Bangkok, Tak and her home town in Chantaburi province. Police said they will post her picture in hotels, nightclubs and other entertainment venues in Chiang Mai. The anaesthetic agent is likely to be a Chinese made drug which has been used in several rape crimes recently, police said. http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/308997/serial-breast-drugger-robs-again

Niki Amornsub or Kwita Amornsub from KP Agency is a scammer (I'll use both her names, Niki Amornsub and Kwita Amornsub so in hopes of taking over her name for google searches). I just thought I'd throw this out there to help anyone else that might come across her path. She is basically a travel agent that rips people off when the time is right. The worst part about this is that I have been a friend and customer of hers for over 7 years. I'd give her about 200k of business per year on average, so I never thought anything of paying cash for my family's flight back to the states. We arrived at the counter for our baby's first flight, and the guy says that I only have tickets for Jeab and Jasmine...nothing for Mr. Farang. I try and call Niki Amornsub at 3 in the morning but her phone is off (huge red flag in Thailand). I'm forced to buy another ticket at the desk as I'm not about to let my wife travel 24 hours alone with a 6 month old baby. Since this happened, we got seated in separate seats, which made the flight even worse than expected. Anyway, Kwita Amornsub never even bought my ticket. She gave me a fake confirmation, which I had no reason to doubt. She was slow to reply once we got back to the states, and has been leading me on a chase since then. 5 weeks ago she fell off the face of the earth by shutting off her phone and not replying to my e-mails. It was then that I started to call old friends and research her a bit on the net. She's been scamming mofos left and right to a tune of a million baht so far. There's even a Facebook group of haters. I'm working on getting my money back, and I'm confident that I will. It's not really the money, it's getting duped by someone I considered to be a friend. I mean she came to a few of my birthday parties, bought Jasmine a small gift, wanted to have baby days with her baby and husband (Thomas Volkmann), and was always nice to me and Jeab. It hurts. I haven't learned much from this because I can't just go around and not trust anyone I've known for less than 7 years, but I do promise that she will learn a lot from this. Niki, you've messed with my trust and my family. My contacts have gotten the names and addresses of your family members, Punnavidh Amornsub and Pichet Amornsub. Give me an appropriate reply here or via e-mail by Monday, or I will have people knocking on doors. I promise that I will be relentless. Rob. And here are her pics.

Almost got caught with a scam involving a recruiter in London and a bogus company in USA. The company, Werner Kraus, in USA wanted to open up in Australia and was looking for someone to kick off the operation. Got suspicious when large sums of money were being deposited in the bank account with instructions to transfer to Moscow. Pulled out quick smart
