Before all I used to do was lift weight three times a week and run twice a week at the gym. Two years ago my friend asked if I wanted to come with him to do Muay Thai (I used to train when I was 6 or 7...and off and on till I was 27) at a gym not too far from home; I decided I could try and get back into it again.

I started training 3 times a week and loved it! Not just because I was losing weight and the cardio was great, but because I loved how it sounded and felt when I did pad work. I continued training, even when I started working in Afghanistan. So far I've lost 35 lbs.

35 lbs in 4 months???? My bf would be proud if I start take up muay thai!!

2 hours a day in the gym, 6-7 days a week, lifting weights and cardio. But have had a few breaks in this routine due to travelling lately because its hard to find proper gyms around.

Working out is an important catalyst in my life , get alot of things sorted out in the gym and i love the feeling of being almost newly born again after each exercise.

Seriously though Muay Thai is a crazy sport. I find the horizontal slide and shuffle (also known as the horizontal folk dance) a few times a week is a lot more enjoyable.lol :D:lol:

My whole life has been fitness coupled with terrible addiction and hedonism at the same time.

Karate Black belt @ 12.

Equestrian sports from 5 to 13. Surprisingly difficult.

800 to 1500 meter specialist from about 13 to 18. (I did 2.30 sec for 800 regularly at 16 and above but couldn't really break that)

Thai-boxing and western boxing from 18 to about 28. Fought Amateur in Boxing and Pro in MT.

I also did Sambo with ( and I am soooo lucky for this the head of the Russian wrestling and Sambo team. Guy was a bad ass. Never worked out what he was doing in the UK though). This was during my 20's and I still love Combat Sambo.

Shan Dao (Chinese boxing) for a spell in China. I lived near a huge Shaolin Gung Fu institute. I was allowed to enter tournaments where we had to fight 3 times in 1 day. I had mixed results.

The last few years have been about creating functional strength using weights cycling kettles, striking and subs, still run 2 to 4 times a week.

At 36 I am in far better shape than most guys 15 years younger than me and all this has been done with alcoholism (from time to time) and poly-drug use which has ranged from a tickle at the weekend to daily lines for breakfast and everything in between from needles to pills.

With exercise, it is all in your head. Your body is capable of things you wouldn't believe, but if your head can't do it then your body can't either.

The TS said he exercises at home. You have excellent self motivation.

I found that a place away from home produces a better stare of mind for pushing the body and mind and the home is where I repair myself.

I went to 95kg last year and pressed 300lbs no worries. But I looked bloated.... Stronger than I thought I could be though, cardio suffered and I didn't feel as healthy.

This year I will hit about 84ish (or whatever feels really good, could be less) and remain there with more functional strength.

I still train striking and subs with some mates, all of whom have also competed pro in their chosen sport. We do submissions + wresting with throws (Sambo really but with a bit of a twist). MT and regular boxing. We don't bother doing it as sports rules anymore but more realistic so it could actually be more functional in real situations.

For example we don't concentrate using a jab to aid the establishing of rhythm, timing and distance to much as we used to (apart from in sparring for fun) as this is a habit which is not particularly functional in street situations. We VERY seldom go for ground subs (although we train them for defensive purposes) as whipping an arm bar in the street is really hard on concrete (if you need to spin Ouch!!! my back!!!!) plus his mates will kick your ******* head off your shoulders.

We concentrate on 10 to 15 second explosions. Use the Sambo/wrestling to stay off the floor when ever possible and create correct distance for explosive attacks. We seldom kick (but train them for defense) as they leave you off balance and very vulnerable to bone on bone attacks. When you don't have gloves and a ref everything changes, thugs can batter champs on the street with bone on bone wacks (people who have competed in full contact striking competitions will know what I mean) Kicking in the bollocks is OK though if you can get it.

We try to stay out of clinches for similar reasons to the last 2 points above, the MT plum is OK for a quick knee or 2 and get out (unless you are SURE he is alone) as it opens the vulnerabilities of I mentioned regarding sub fighting in the street, but from a standing point. Basically we remove the sport aspect and get rid of the techniques which are exclusively effective to rules and a ref.

Another thing we have started (as we have all hurt our hands punching skulls in the past) are open hand strikes. Not exclusively but as an extra. It is quite hard to hit a moving target accurately and skulls are much harder than hands. We have discovered we can generate just as much impact in an open hand strike to a hard surface as with a closed fist and it hurts us less.

But as always, walk away if you can and don't try this at home without an adult

To those who want to learn MT here.

Learn the basics before you get here. I found most good gyms here are terrible for beginners as they want people who are already proficient. You will have more confidence for when you walk in to a gym here too. The average fitness gym which includes MT is usually expensive for **** tuition. Some are good though. I would say learn basics before you get here.

I never go to the gyms or fitness.(paid one)

why?

I don't pay for thing i can do at home.cost me a lot of silly bucks.

I don't find useful of using it much.I can do when i'm home or when i'm out .

It's too ridiculous for me to go down there and face some fat trainies who their bodies and health are much worse than mine.

My diet is heathy enough and the way i live is healthy.

How?

I don't eat junk foods or i eat it but once a year if i really need to try.

I have a very smart way to eat fats when i want.

I do exercise always at least 3 days a week ,2hrs a day ,no alcohol, soda or some stupid energy drinks.

Pure water at least 8 glasses a day.

Put some vegetable in every meal and fruits if you are so hungry instead of having tastty dessert ,sweet or what ever can make you gain fats

had some fats only once a week if you want it

do walk,move your body so often or cook food at home and many restaurant put lot of Monosodiumglutamate.

if any of you have some diet tip please write me or put it here

but in me Yes! also some hot meats on me .

Gym is my passion i love to do work out in gym but.The only trouble with the gyms in condos is general lack of experience of the equipment.. lots of Thais running barefoot on treadmills and slamming the weights down and pretty much breaking everything in sight cause they have no idea...
