101 Great Things about Living in Thailand

Question

While I have sometimes found the forum about the protests etc interesting and sometimes informative, I am getting really tired and bored with so much negative **** about the country and people, and sometimes the hatred in words expressed.... not just in forums... but in day to day life here too.

Sure, I have been as guilty of being negative myself and saying things from my own anger or frustration that I later come to regret.

I also just had a good buddy, who has lived here 6 years, get so affected by all the **** lately that he has left and gone back to him home country.

In the end, being negative just draws more negative and focuses attention away for the many, many wonderful things this country and people have. As an expat living here and in Asia for many years, Thailand is my home of choice. I still cant think of a better country (for me) in which to live.

So please, if you have something good to say about living here, or a story to tell, put it here. (or are dramatic and negative forums more popular?

1. Where else would I find better or more delicious food than Thailand? If I left, I would miss all my favourite dishes that I can get anywhere on the street or small restaurant.

2. I love the Thai sense of sanuk and people so easy to laugh.

3. If you live here for a while, you cannot avoid being touched deeply by 'nam jai' at some unexpected times.

I could go on and fill 101 reasons myself but...

whats yours?

The best friends I have ever had (THIS IS NUMBER 1 FOR ME).

The food is a top one.

Hot women all over the place is nice on the way to work.

The best night clubs I have been to.

Lumpini park................ DAY TIME ONLY lol.

Samed Island only a few hours a way. I might have been 100 times no ****.

Pattaya............... Occasionally.

Good, nice Thai people.

Great gyms.

Get away with A LOT here I wouldn't in other places.

TF....... amazingly

Natural beauty... Outside BKK.

Architecture in BKK is sometimes wonderful.

Relatively cheap for now, but getting more and more pricey and at a faster rate too.

The amazing random *** stuff that is seen on a daily basis..... pure live on street entrainment at every corner and all over the place.

Sanook everywhere.

56mm condoms.

Stupidity.

Could go on for ages but I have a work shop to run.

Living in a place and knowing people spend a whole year saving just to come here for their holiday :)

Good one.

My neighbours & neighbourhood.

Freedom.

Very reasonable cost of living.

Great weather even the rain.

Local minimarts, 7-11 and motorbike taxi riders outside.

Smiles from strangers when you take the time to say hi.

1. the weather .... i don't care how f**king hot it gets, it's still better than the rain, wind, cold and dark of northern ireland. no more getting up at 6.30am to scrape ice of the car !! no more going to work in the dark and coming home from work in the dark for 3 or 4 months !!

2. food ... love it. food back home is now bland and boring. really struggle to get something i like when i go home.

3. beaches ... samet and samui especially. although don't get the chance to go as often as i would like.

4. cheap transport .... especially taxis !!

5. happy hour beers !! with the pound and euro plummeting against the baht beer prices r virtually on a par with back home ... unless u know where and when to go for happy hour !! :D:D

6. the girls .... for the most part friendly and approachable and usually good craic as well !!!

Ahhhh this kind of topic is what I've been waiting for...got bored and annoyed when visitors complaining only about the bad things, so manytimes I wanna say "Do you know where the airport right?"

Another great part of being here is the patriotism. I wish my country hadn't ade patriotism illegal.

I know what you mean ???????????????????????. Yesterday I was walking with Tanaporn, my good friend, when I said "Hey look Tanaporn, there is a crack in the side walk".

To which she responded "Well if you don't like it here you can **** off back to your own country".

Just kidding really but you sound like the BNP.

i haven't been to Nor'n Ireland but i'll agree anyway. i even like rainy season, (at least when i'm indoors and watching from my balcony).

2. food ... love it. food back home is now bland and boring. really struggle to get something i like when i go home.

while there is plenty of good, interesting food (even good, interesting AFFORDABLE food) in NYC, there is absolutely nothing there (or anywhere else) that can compare to MANGOSTEEN SEASON.

4. cheap transport .... especially taxis !!

the taxis in Thailand are vastly underrated by most whiteys. parts-per-million wise, i've never been or even heard of a place with more good, honest drivers either (maybe because i don't frequent the whitey ghettos). and Thailand is absolutely the only place where i've had taxi drivers give me too much change on purpose!

6. the girls .... for the most part friendly and approachable and usually good craic as well !!!

here i will have to disagree. i would say the girls are too violent, but if i do my girlfriend will probably beat me again, so i won't.

that said, i don't think i've ever agreed with Ciaran so many times in a row (but who knows? i might have, i don't actually know what he's saying unless he types it anyway).

a couple of my own:

7. the repair guys. repair guys in Thailand can fix anything from your shoes and luggage to your high end audio, video, or photo gear for next to nothing, and for next to nothing.

8. the laundry people. they fix stuff for FREE (or to be more accurate, no extra charge0.

9. craft people. if you crave fine Thai-style carving, you can find someone to get that done at an astonishingly reasonable price. if you yearn for street-restaurant style wooden furniture, you can get that custom-made for next to nothing (i did). if you want costumes made, copies of anime figurines, or just about anything made, someone makes and makes it well here.

EDIT: i are smert enuf to noe that i shud number 'em.

Can someone count these please?

I don't want us to write 102 by accident.

For me, I like the 'can do' attitude. There's always a way to get things done here. Someone is always willing to provide a service or product.

Cash makes everything easy here. And I like corruption when it benefits me...

I meant corruption in my "I can get away with..." comment

Because I guess Black guys, Arabs, Indians and the rest don't say **** about Thailand huh huh. Only ol' whitey!! **** off you white bastards, we don't like you anyway, except for tourism, marriage, better management systems and education purposes..

As for the glasses, you need some too as you thought the English blood thread was about English bob.... or were you just day dreaming about him?

Tanaporn is a fictional person invented to troll you and highlight blind patriotism, the BNP are a very unpopular political group in England who wish to keep England for English people and people who look like 'real' English people and not alter the culture too much with influences from people with different skin clolur and stuff like that. If a foreigner complains they respond, 'well if you don't like it you can go back to where you came from.' Just as you did.

I personally like that attitude, one of the reasons I like being here. Thai people have it. I just wish it was ok to have it back in Blighty.

Don't change, I like you this way. Long live you and that attitude. I like it a lot.

I have often had dreams about both of you. Either way i like the BNP thing (British National Party), bunch of tossers overall but I like the way they think like Thai people in keeping their country for it's people. Viva Thai attitude.

I also like

Thai girls who act all innocent in public, but naughty at home.

The water sprayer for my ass.

University uniforms (I can't believe I'm the first to mention it)

People who are SHOCKED every year when there is no water... and then there is too much water.

Hospitals staffed by models in fantasy uniforms.

Motorbike taxis through the traffic.

Cosmetics departments.

and some more stuff...
