In the first study of its kind, Caucasians and Asians rated average Eurasian faces as more attractive than average faces of either race. They also judged Eurasian faces to be healthier, giving credence to theory that beauty is not solely determined by culture and the media, but has biological origins. The study's leader, Professor Gillian Rhodes, of the University of Western Australia, said the results suggested "our preferences are shaped by evolution". This may come as no surprise to fans of actors Keanu Reeves and Tia Carrere, or model Devon Aoki, who has an Anglo-Bavarian mother and a Japanese father. Ben Lilley, the head of Sydney ad agency Smart, said advertisers risked appearing old-fashioned if their models were not exotic-looking. He said young Australians tended to have friends from many different racial backgrounds and celebrated this diversity. "So we try very hard to ensure we use an interesting cross-section of youth, rather than the Anglo-Saxon Australian stereotype." Advertisement AdvertisementDominique Longheon, the general manager of Chic Model Management in Sydney, said blonde models no longer dominated the Asian model market, particularly in Hong Kong and Singapore. "Once, every ad had your typical Swedish girl, but the flavour for the past two years has been Eurasian," he said. It's a wave of change that was caught early by Michelle Lee, who has had success as a model in Australia and Asia. A mix of Philippine, Spanish, Australian and Scottish ancestry, Ms Lee, 24, grew up in Adelaide thinking she was unattractive. "I was pretty much the only ethnic child at school ... an ugly duckling," she recalled. In prehistoric times, humans would have encountered few mixed-race individuals, so evolutionary forces were unlikely to have led to a preference for a mixed-race appearance per se, said Professor Rhodes. "They could, however, have shaped perceptions of attractiveness to favour cues to health." While the health of the Eurasian people used in the study is not known, there is evidence that having parents from very different ancestries may reduce the chances of inheriting two copies of harmful genetic mutations. Eurasian features were not necessarily the most attractive of all. People also tended to prefer female faces with very feminised features, said Professor Rhodes, whose findings appear in the journal Perception. Her team has also found that people preferred average computer-generated faces made up of composites to the faces used to make the composites. But what I have come to find chatting in here is, that most Thai Girl/Ladies are friendly, outward going, great to chat with and have a sense of fun . For the ones I've met age and nationality is not a barrier to being open, and I hope, honest and just enjoying making friends on line is what they are in tf for. If relationships form then great.
