I'm looking for a place to find an inexpensive used motocycles.

my girl's bike bought the farm a long time ago,and she takes tuk tuk back and forth to work, but she is scared to travel home alone. She said that a tuk tuk driver raped a girl in Korat when takeing her home, so now she is terrified to travel home alone and gets a co-worker to go with her.

there is no friggin way i'm buying a new bike eventhough they are cheap, but she can't bring it here so why buy new.I hate motorcycles myself after a bad experiance.

anyone that knows anything please let me know

Nothing obvious, like in the local papers? or do none of the local bike shops have a second hand bike department?

Ok, got some time to kill, so will try and be helpful for once. Here's a site that I've used in the past. computers, cars, bikes, and proabaly kitchen sinks.

Anyway, it's in Thai, but I've navigated these links so far for you to the motorbikes section that you'd be most interested in. Now you need a Thai person to sit down with you to make some calls.. Mind you, you'll find a fair bit of it in English.. has pics, prices and phone numbers, so at the very least it will give you an idea of the market value accordiing to the year and make. etc...

I guess you've probably had a look on the streets and seen a make or model that you think is suitable. But Honda's not a bad choice, just because they're way more common, and perhaps easier to find a bargain...

Honda 'Wave' or Kawasaki 'Kaze' for a step-through (typical island rent-a-bike), or a Honda 'Sonic' or a Honda 'Nice' for something more sensible and safer ( in my opinion) - usually disc brake front and rear, better suspension 5 or 6 speed.. and a clutch, and not 2 stroke racers.

Anyhow.. have a browse and good luck.

Cheers..

When it comes to buying vehicles in Thailand, I recommend that you buy a new one. They are actually quite cheap. In the long run, if you maintain it you will get more than your money's worth. But if you are buying it for a relative of a relative and not yourself, go ahead and get one that has been beaten into the ground and could die at any moment.

Cheap compared to where??? I don't know what vehicles you have bought, but anything not made in Thailand is CONSIDERABLY more than it would cost in US, Europe, Oz, NZ.

Aha......by 'vehicles' you were referring to motorbikes...... i was referring to the 4-wheel version 'vehicle'..... they certainly ain't cheap!!!!

Dunno about the bikes, although I am looking for an old Vespa or Lambretta.

How much does it cost for a proper motorcyle in Thailand.. As in one with more than 250cc's? I saw a very splash Honda/Harley/Ducati dealership that had bikes featured for RIDICULOUS prices. Is there something built into the tax structure that condemns thai people from owning anything other than a single cylinder weed whacker bike?

I'm going to miss my bike when I move to thailand.....

Anyone want to sell me a sport bike 600cc's or bigger? Aw **** it, I'd take anything..

Also, how do I go about insuring and registering a bike in Thailand? PITA? Expensive?

A new Honda Wave starts at around 32,000 baht. A used one is about 22-25k with worn out brakes, lots of scrapes and dings etc. Hardly seems worth it to buy used. If you are in Korat, then a quick jaunt around should reveal some bike shops and bikes for sale. Is she not able to find something locally? I would have a hard time imagining that she or her friends don't know anyone who could help out locally.

Also, if you buy her a new one, you are essentially saying with your actions "I care enough about you to make sure that you have dependable transportation that will get you home at night without a breakdown". Still think that is worth the loss of face, the worry, the hassle to buy used?

thanks for the info, i agree with CiaranM :)

breaks and tires are cheap, forking out 1500 bucks for a bike she will only use for a year is a waste of money.I only paied 1600 for my used 99 voyager, and its great.

she wants a new one, but 38,000 for a new Yamaha Mio.

is accetable and she can buy it herself at that price.

her last one was used, and given to her, she was guessing around 60,000 for a new one

for the 3km it is from work to the apartment, a good used for 20,000 is fine

I cant really buy new, after payng for private hospital room, saveing for landing fees, and paying for my house there isn't much left.

I was just getting on track when my dog tore a tendon in his knee so i gotta fork out 1g for the operation next week. comeing up with 30,000 baht is not going to be so easy for a few months.

Jesus Christ. Mohammed (or however you spell that idiot's name). Buddha. [insert whatever stupid idol worship whatever ya know here]

A Dog?

Freak'n A. I got a solution.

Buy the bike and eat the dog.

The money you save eating the dog, you can then go to the movies on the new bike!

Dude, this is Thailandfriends, not Cambodia friends. We don't eat dogs. Some farangs enjoy the company of their animals, much like you enjoy the company of your crotchfruit.

Because this is a thailand based website, I have a valid idea for yout "problem." Just the sell the little one into prostitution/slavery.. It's perfectly acceptable up in Isan. You'll probably get like 3000 baht for him.

LOLZZZZZ

Thanks. Yeah, i know Red Baron. Some very sexy bikes there. Went there once. They has the wipe the dribble off the floor after I left. I used to ride a Ducati in the UK, until an ignorant French motorist left me with a broken back and femur, while touring France. All is ok now by the way. And I do yearn for something cool again

www.siamsuperbike.com

Bought my R1 from there, very happy with service and prices, a good shop. Pattanakarn 30.

You should talk to ThePunisher, he is looking for people to ride with (see one of his journals). He has ZR-7S or something.

Siam Superbike's stock seems to change so slowly. Porn Superbike on Srinakarin Rd are good too. Nice people. I'm still looking for the right beast.
