XCHANELX Posted August 25, 2006 Report Share Posted August 25, 2006 here's something for broadband people that will really speed firefox up : 1.type about:config into the address bar and hit return. scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. when you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading. 2.alter the entries as follows: Set network.http.pipelining to true set network.http.proxy.pipelining to true set network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to some number like 30. this means it will make 30 requests at once. 3. lastly right-click anywhere and select NEW-> Integer. name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0 (zero). this value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves. if you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now! you have to close your browser after you make the changes. when you start it back up they will be in effect. *************************************************************** please post your result after you've adjust your firefox Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Explain.... pages load faster customization is easier opening multiple windows in tabs (not another window) is easier to manage cause they reside on a toolbar at the top and can be saved all together. For example I have about 5 or 6 sites I always use when I log onto internet. These are saved as one and I can automatically open them "open previous session". downloading is managed in a much more intuitive way and faster. there is more. Anyway, I dont know anyone who has tried the fox who has gone back to IE. But I dont know that many people so you just have to take this as an opinion, i guess. It has many problems with it that allowed people to backdoor in to your system (yay Microsoft). Many people switched to Firefox awhile back because of this, not because of the "extra" features, simply because it was more secure. This is still true to some extent but now with the ever growing popularity, it will start to raise some flags to the hacking community (as it already has). Or maybe some people like to avoid anything Microsoft if they can. *** kinda off topic, but if you want an office like program with full compatibility as Microsoft Office check out http://www.openoffice.org/ *** It can save files in all the same Microsoft formats and can be opened and is fully compatible with the Microsoft Office products. R.Win Posted January 26, 2008 Report Share Posted January 26, 2008 The fact that 80% of people are browsing with IE is because it is standard in windows, probably 60% of them don't give a crap about what browser they use, they just want to check email, find information or check porn. BUT if you would take the time to try and IF you do give a crap about te quality of your browser there is no denying that firefox on a windows system is much better than IE, I don't think there are too many people who have been using both for a while who will deny that. It is easy to put it to the test if you have both installed just use your regular IE and if the page looks funny, is slow or doesn't open at all, switch to firefox and put in the same adress and see if there is a difference. On a mac Safari is simply the best, it loads faster than any other browser, IE isn't even being developed for OSX anymore because it is a battle that is already lost to safari and firefox aside from the fact it is less good it is because safari is the standard browser for your mac. Safari for windows is ok, but I have to be honest that it is not working nearly as good as firefox, I expierence many difficluties in safari whenever I'm forced to use a windows system. I always make sure I have IE, firefox AND safari on the go on windows to tackle browser problems. On the mac I use both firefox and Safari. IT IS very important how a webpage is created, some sites work better in firefox, some work better in IE, most of the times firefox wins. So in general I think firefox is better. HOWEVER for websites like TF safari is awfull, but that is again because of the way the site is built. Firefox does work perfectly for TF as you. On Linux I've tried Switfox trough, but didn't sense any diffrence. On Win I'm now with Firefox Portable. I have no idea why, but the app itself just works better. Probably I've bugged the original one with some extension, but I'm too lazy to fully reinstall it, just transferred my bookmarks, some extensions and skins to the portable one and it's fine. The only bug I can see is when an old vote ***** like me gets around to voting it can be a bit of a pain as you may vote for someone who is at the bottom of the page, ounce you back out of their profile you have to scoll all the wat to the bottom of the page again.
