funky_house
Saw this in todays newspaper: Thai woman kills English husband from UK in Thailand A British man from UK was found murdered after predicting that his Thai wife would kill him. Englishman Ian Beeston, 69 year old retired design engineer, was beaten and stabbed to death at his home in a village in the northeastern Thailand province of Roi-Et. Englishman Ian Beeston?s body was found on Saturday, his Thai wife Wanna, and her Thai boyfriend, Somchit Janong, 48, were arrested and charged with murder. Yesterday as the Thai pair were arrested, horrified onlookers, shocked at the killing, shouted ?hia? Thai word for lizard - a serious Thai insult.. The problems started 4 months ago when UK?s Beeston, married nine years to his 42-year-old Thai wife Wanna, found out she had cashed in all the property in Thailand he had bought at a local Thai bank. ?It was like he has signed his own death warrant,? said neighbor Andrew Herrington, 51, a retired HGV driver from Sheldon, Birmingham, England. His wife lived behind the main house with her Thai boyfriend. Every time we went to visit she would come out and scream and order us away. ?This is my house. This is my Thailand.? ?Ian knew that he was going to be murdered. He had already complained that while he was away she had put something inside a beer in his fridge. He had felt ill. So he sent the Thai beer away for analysis to a local Thai hospital. He was awaiting the results. But it was an open secret in the area that Ian was going to be murdered, but she had a secret police lover. ?When I recently went home to Birmingham, UK a policeman told me: ?Perhaps your friend will not be alive when you come back?. ?So when I went to his house on Sunday and saw his car was there and the house locked up, I knew then his time had come. His wife came out shouting at me and my wife to go away. We decided to call the Thai police. ?It was like he has signed his own death warrant,? said neighbor Andrew Herrington, 51, a retired HGV driver from Sheldon, Birmingham, UK. grezzzy_greer
Very sad to hear about this - I feel so sorry for him. And that hag is nothing to write home about. He arrives into the country with nearly twenty-two and a half million baht and ends up dead. How the hell a house, an acre of farmland, and a "guest house" and restaurant in Nakhon Nowhere can end up costing that kind of money, I have no idea! She was obviously fleecing him from the start. At least now they have got the ***** and her lizard!

PJack
Another interesting topic for PhD research thesis. Why would someone study Ensligh language training effectiveness when they could come to understand the fascinating phenomenon of Thai wives who have killed their farang husbands. This is not the first case, obviously. I am not saying it is common, but it would be interesting to know exactly how many farang husbands have been killed by their Thai wives. A related topic is how many Thai wives have stolen all their husbands money and house by taking title of it all, sometimes when the husband has gone home for a vacation. He comes back to find the locks are all changed on the doors and a Thai man is yelling at him to leave "his" property. I have hears lots of stories. Yet, another interesting topic for research would be the phenomenon of Internet Dating sites. These have grown in popularity in recent years. I dont think many of them wind up in foul play, so to speak.
beej
OKOKOK So he's up in Roi-Et thats not good to begin with but I suppose beggars can't be choosers. My question is, you KNOW your going to be murdered, do you hang around? **** no, you get the hell out of there, a shitty 500,000 baht house isn't worth your life, and by the sounds of things, if he like girls from roi-et there are PLENTY more fish in the sea. I would guess that loads of deaths are reported as "accident", or old age.
Wagner
It has been reported that everyone in the village knew about the plot to kill him, including the local police, just as they knew she was having an affair. I think this is just another case proving how a farang man has no value in the eyes of quite a few Thai people. There is no sense of decency or social condemnation. Let's see if she and her lover will do any time behind the bars or will they just buy their way to freedom with money taken from the farang guy. Thenagain certain Thai women don't seem to care if he is Thai or farang, as this story in today's Bangkok Post shows. With stories like this, don't be surprised if Thai women do not have the best of reputations around the world. http://www.bangkokpost.com/170808_News/17Aug2008_news03.php Suspicious killing Chumphon - A man was shot dead last week because he could not find a 100-baht banknote quickly enough for his killers. Durian vendor Masugri Malaheng, 26, was shot three times in the head outside a seafood restaurant in Lang Suan district around midnight by two teenagers. His wife, Thanatgan Nuirat, 28, told police the couple had just left a restaurant when two teenagers on a motorbike approached them. She said they asked for 100 baht, saying their gas tank was almost empty. She quoted one teen as saying: "Too late, you're a dead man," before he pulled out a gun and shot her husband from behind. The same gunman then got off the motorbike and shot him twice more before fleeing the scene. Chumphon police, however, noticed that the wife showed no signs of grief. Police later discovered she bought insurance for her husband two months earlier worth 750,000 baht. The couple had lived together for seven years and had one child. They ran a small business selling durian in Chumphon and Yala.
submissiv
I assume the girl was a bar girl a hooker. I always asked my friends that date bar girls in Thailand in any form bar girls, hookers, go go girls or sponsor girls if they would date a hooker in there own country. They would never date or married a prostitute in their own country. ?Hi mom I married the local hooker from the street? The man is older the man has a different culture the women see a quick way out to tell him she loves him. But still you are getting married with a prostitute and that means crime, bad friends and drugs. It?s like inviting problem to come to your home. Then you have another problem and that?s education people with no education have no empathy and think like a child. I do not say he should be blamed for being killed but just do not marry prostitutes in any form even if they say they love you.

Wagner
Er no insurance fraud related killings from other nationalities? My understanding is the Yanks are at it like it's a national sport Sure, things like this happen all over the world. The difference here in Thailand is however that there seems to be very little if no social condemnation of such behavior. Many have the mindset that the stupid, ugly and lonely farang guy deserved what was coming. Many are actually jealous to these women for being able to extort so much money out of a farang and some even see these women as heroes. The difference is how Thai society deals with incidents like this. I'm not trying to paint all Thai women with the same brush but those who do not actively speak up against such incidents and do their part to see justice served, are quietly condoning this kind of action. This is not the case in US or in other western societies. Such women are frowned upon and certainly condemned in their society. Would the villagers in this case have shown disapproval and public opposition to the actions of this woman and her lover, this incident would most likely never have gone as far as it did. They didn't and a lot of people in Thailand don't, hence these incidents will keep on happening. It is a testament to the disrespect and contempt a considerable part of Thai society holds against farang men.

The race element creeps in for sure but its still ye olde battle of the sexes before we even make it a "Thai phenomena" I totally agree Jay in that it's not just a Thai perception. It happens all over the world. It's just that this site is geared mainly taughts the Thai popluation. King
Wagner
I think the perception is repeated thru any male vs female event like taking a man for all he's got in divorce. The race element creeps in for sure but its still ye olde battle of the sexes before we even make it a "Thai phenomena" I agree to the similarity when taking a man to the cleaners but I do claim it is prominently a Thai phenomenon in that there is no social condemnation of these women. Ask yourself how many times have you seen a Thai person publicly defending a Farang against another Thai person. Those instances are few and far between, regardless of how gross the case is. Just as this one. Then again one can see on daily basis, even here on TF, Farang men defending Thai women against other Farang men. They don't do it because of racial bias but because of their personal opinion and stance. Surely no-one could defend the killing of this English guy but where's the public condemnation by Thai people ? I had an incident at my residence once, with 2 Thai men entering my property and going through my stuff. When I returned with my Thai GF, an argument initially ensued and we called the police. She was siding with me and the amount of scolding she got from the Thai people who had gathered to watch the show was sickening. They were blaming her for being a traitor and siding with a Farang against Thai people. The 2 men were fined at the police station and recieved a stiff warning for their actions from the Police Chief, thus making it clear they were wrong. It was irrelevant. All that mattered to these Thai crowds was Thai against Farang and as such, any Thai person should never go against their countrymen. It is not difficult to find cases like that all over Thailand on a daily basis. A Farang is as default at a disadvantage if at odds with a Thai person. The further you wander into the jungle, the more prominent this fact becomes. In a small Isan village like the one in this case, a farang doesn't stand a chance. I wish I was wrong but it is not difficult at all to find cases in Thailand supporting this conclusion. We all read about them in the news almost daily. This 17 number is sourced from where? Based on 'official' police figures?!! As pointed out above, there is a significant number of farang 'falling' off balconies and others passing away in questionable circumstances in this country. One would suspect that under reporting in the area would have to be considerable given the impeccable standards of criminal investigations by the squeaky clean thai police! But is the prevelance greater than any other countries where spouses kill for money? Doubtful.
