thats some sick sh*t !

same same but different.

similar stories (to an extent) in every country on Earth. Go and google the amount of children born in the US or UK with foetal alcohol syndrome every day.

Good luck to the centres working with these kids, but until the cycle of poverty is broken, the disenfranchised will always turn to heroin or opium for escape.

bugger that!!!

Storm Triggers Giant Guatemalan Sinkhole

One person has reportedly died after a massive sinkhole swallowed a three-storey building and a house in Guatemala.

The hole, larger than a street intersection, opened up in the wake of Tropical Storm Agatha in the capital Guatemala City.

At least 146 people across Central America have been killed in the storm.

Among the dead in Guatemala are four children who had been in a house that was swept away in a landslide.

Guatemala's President Alvaro Colom told a news conference that 123 people have been confirmed dead and another 90 are missing as a result of the storm.

"I want to make clear that those are provisional numbers because new information continues to come in," he said.

"There are many villages that still have not been able to report their tragedies."

Agatha, the first named storm of the 2010 Pacific hurricane season, hit on Saturday.

More than a metre of rain fell in the west of Guatemala and in neighbouring El Salvador.

"I've got no one to help me. I watched the water take everything," said Carlota Ramos in the town of Amatitlan.

Her brick house was almost completely swamped by mud.

Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador have all declared nationwide states of emergency.

Over 94,000 people have been evacuated after the storm buried houses under mud and swept away a highway bridge near Guatemala City.

International aid is beginning to step up with some aid organisers turning to Facebook, Twitter and other internet social networking sites to appeal for necessities to send to populations or authorities.

France said it is sending humanitarian supplies and issued a statement expressing its condolences to the affected countries.

Guatemala City's response was hampered by a separate emergency - the eruption of a nearby volcano whose ash forced the closure of the capital's international airport.

Central America is vunerable to heavy rains due to its mountainous terrain while poor communication in rural areas can complicate rescue efforts.

Great points Iain it's aweful stuff no matter what country it's in whither it's in your own back yard or another country it's hard to watch kids that don't even have an impression of the world yet already have cards delt against them.

Not trying to save the world with the post. but when I saw it.. it was a WTF? moment

Cumbria shooting rampage death toll reaches 12

Twelve people have been killed by a gunman who went on the rampage across Cumbria in north-west England.

Taxi driver Derrick Bird shot dead a colleague in the town of Whitehaven before driving through the countryside apparently targeting people at random.

Cumbia Police said they were dealing with 30 different crime scenes. Three people are critically ill in hospital.

Mr Bird's body was found in a wooded area in Boot in the Lake District and two weapons have been recovered.

Prime Minister David Cameron told the House of Commons the country's thoughts were with those families who had lost loved ones.

Witnesses said the suspect drove through the Whitehaven with a gun hanging out of his car window, headed south through Gosforth and Seascale before turning inland.

A GP in the town of Seascale said he and a colleague had later certified two other people dead.

Dr Barrie Walker said: "The surgery was called and I went out. I've certified one of them dead. My colleague saw another," he said.

"At present there are two people dead and one seriously injured in Seascale. I know one of the victims. She was in the street.

The second person was on a bicycle and was shot on the bike."

BBC Look North Chief Reporter Chris Stewart said a farmer is also believed to have been killed in the Gosforth area.

After the shootings, detectives said 52-year-old Mr Bird drove to the central Lakes in a Citroen Picasso, then abandoned it in the Boot area.

Before the body was discovered people living nearby were urged to stay indoors for their own protection.

Helicopters and armed officers from other police forces were brought in to help apprehend the gunman.

Soon afterwards, Deputy Chief Constable Stuart Hyde said: "I can confirm that we've found a body in a wooded area near Boot which we believe to be Mr Bird, together with a firearm.

"A formal identification will be made later."

Nuclear plant shut

Mr Hyde added: "Our focus now is to try and work out what has caused this and where Mr Bird has been over the last 24 hours and in particular the last few hours.

"I would plead to anyone who has seen him or has seen any of the incidents, please come forward, speak to us and help us piece together exactly was has happened in this very, very tragic set of circumstances.

"We have a number of crime scenes across the county, which are being staffed by police officers, and I would ask people to show a little bit of restraint and respect in regard to those scenes as we try and piece together exactly what has gone on."

A major incident has been declared at West Cumberland Hospital, in Whitehaven, where the NHS said all routine operations had been cancelled.

The Accident and Emergency department at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle is also on full incident stand-by, the hospital trust said.

The Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant in west Cumbria closed its gates as a safety precaution and afternoon shift workers were being told to stay away, though the site has since reopened.

The Whitehaven victim, believed to be a colleague of 52-year-old Mr Bird, was killed at 1035 BST.

A local taxi firm boss, Glenda Pears, said: "We just don't know what's happened.

"The lad that's been killed was friends with him. They used to stand together having a craic on the rank.

"He was friends with everybody and used to stand and joke on Duke Street."

Sue Matthews, a telephonist at A2B Taxis in Whitehaven, said the Mr Bird was self-employed and lived alone. She described him as a "quiet fellow".

At the start of Prime Minister's Questions David Cameron expressed his shock at the events which had unfolded.

He said: "The government will do everything it possibly can to help the local community and those affected.

"When lives and communities are suddenly shattered in this way, our thoughts should be with all those caught up with these tragic events."

Former suspect in Natalee Holloway case wanted in Peruvian murder case

(CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch man once considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, is the suspect in the killing of a woman in Peru, Peruvian police officials said Wednesday.

Authorities in neighboring Chile are on a manhunt for van der Sloot, who fled there, Chile Interpol Deputy Prefect Eugenio Buines Arevalo told CNN.

Chilean police are looking for van der Sloot in various hotels and other overnight accommodations in the border region with Peru, he said. Van der Sloot will be extradited to Peru if captured, he said...

Police also are checking border and customs checkpoints. As of Wednesday there were no sightings of the suspect, and police were investigating if van der Sloot went deeper into Chile, Buines said.

There is "incriminating evidence" linking van der Sloot to the killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez, who was found with multiple stab wounds in a Lima hotel room Wednesday, Cesar Guardia Vasquez, of the criminal investigations unit, said at a news conference.

The hotel room where Flores was found was registered in van der Sloot's name, he said.

First we have BP, now we have British Airways doing something stupid. What is it with British companies

Wed Jun 2, 2:12 pm ET

It just seems like a bad time for any firm with the word "British" in its title. We know all too well the various setbacks experienced by the oil giant once known as British Petroleum; now British Airways has drawn much unwelcome attention to itself with a photo touting its new mobile-boarding pass system as it appears to expedite the air travel of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, the world's most wanted man.

blog_binladenpass.jpg

The photo appeared in the LHR News, the company's internal staff magazine covering London's Heathrow Airport. The image accompanied an article spelling out the benefits of the mobile-boarding setup, which permits users of mobile digital devices to print out their boarding passes on the fly. The boarding pass reads "Bin Laden/Osama" and appears in the graphic panel of a user's iPhone. (AT&T reception in remote Pakistani caves is apparently better than anyone might have guessed.)

What's more, the image features a frequent-flier number for passenger bin Laden — so much for all those airport terrorist watch lists — and has him flying first class on Oct. 26, 2010. As the travel site Gadling.com mused, "sadly, knowing the brilliant minds behind the anti-terror organizations, the terror level will be raised to 'red hot' on October 26, 2010, while airport police all over the world try to figure out which airport the most wanted terrorist in the world will be flying to."

So how did this happen? The short answer is that no one knows — or at least, no one's telling if they do. A British Airways spokeswoman told ABC News reporter Scott Mayerowitz that "a mistake has been made in this internal publication and we are working to find out how this occurred." And in response to a follow-up call from Yahoo! News, another spokeswoman for the airline remained firmly on message, saying, "We're still working to find out how this occurred at this time."

The gaffe could be the result of a tasteless prank that got out of hand — but current speculation is running toward the theory that it's the handiwork of a disgruntled employee. British Airways is currently locked in a labor dispute with the union representing its cabin-crew workers, and the strike has grounded flights for thousands of travelers in one of the busiest travel times of the year. At issue in the labor fight is a proposed cut in the base salaries for new flight attendants. The company estimates that it has lost more than $150 million in revenue during the dispute.

Between the union woes and the Osama PR setback, British Airways executives must be fondly reminiscing about last summer, when the major controversy was the airline's plan to sell ad space on its online boarding passes.

Police in NW Pakistan stop transgender wedding

By RIAZ KHAN - Associated Press Writer

PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- Police in northwestern Pakistan broke up an apparent wedding between a businessman and his transgender bride, saying Tuesday they could face seven years in prison for violating laws against same-sex marriage in the devoutly Muslim country.

The pair denied the charges, saying the celebration was a birthday party, not a wedding.Pakistan Transgender Arrests Pakistan Transgender Arrests Pakistan Transgender Arrests

Authorities also detained 43 guests, who were dancing to drums when authorities made the raid Monday in Peshawar city, police official Javed Khan said.

The alleged bride and many of the guests are transgender, meaning they are biologically male but present themselves as female in their daily lives.

"It falls under same-sex marriage, which is not allowed under our law," Khan said.

Businessman Iqbal Khan, 48, and his alleged bride, an 18-year-old whose formal name is Kashif but goes by Rani, will be charged with attempted sodomy, police official Shaukat Ali said. If convicted, they could face seven years imprisonment.

Police said the pair denied the gathering was a wedding

Ali said it was apparent the two were getting married - pointing out that Iqbal Khan, a married father of five, paid 80,000 rupees ($940) to Rani's "guru."

In Pakistan, many transgenders are thrown out by their families and live in communal homes under the leadership of a "guru," a fellow transgender who looks after their needs and takes a cut of their earnings.

Homosexuality is a taboo subject in Pakistan, and it is extremely rare to hear of a gay wedding.

There are no official figures for the number of transgender people in Pakistan. Known as khusra, they live on the edges of society and are frequently harassed by police.

Despite the discrimination, Pakistan's Islamic society tolerates them as dancers at festivals and weddings, where men and women are segregated and khusra are seen as bridging the gap. Many also work as prostitutes.

The couple and guests would remain in police custody while investigators record their statements and gather details, Khan said.

What a completely weird jump to make. From a gay wedding to female circumcision!!!!!!!!!!!! That's quite a leap even for a cat.

I am very outspoken about that ideology (read other posts) and I feel it is a disease that needs removing from the farce/face of the earth, just as was done 99% at least with Nazism. Don't kill all the Muslims though, just as the Germans weren't wiped out. Just kill the ideology.

Fox Mauls twin babies.

The mother of nine-month-old twin girls has described her "living nightmare" after her daughters were apparently mauled by a fox as they slept in their cots in east London.

Lola and Isabella Koupparis were attacked at about 2200 BST on Saturday.

A police source said the fox apparently entered the house through an open ground-floor door before attacking the twins in an upstairs room.

Both girls suffered arm injuries and one is thought to have facial injuries.

The girls' mother, Pauline, told BBC London 94.9: "It's a living nightmare.

"It's something I would never have expected to happen - let alone to us and my beautiful girls," she added.

Mrs Koupparis said she heard a noise, described as "a funny cry, not a normal cry", coming from the room where the twins were sleeping.

She added: "It was quite muffled but very pained. I went into the room and I saw some blood in Isabella's cot, I thought she had a nosebleed.

"I put on the light, I saw the fox, it just looked at me and it wasn't even scared of me.

"I started screaming as I realised Lola was also covered in blood."

It is thought the fox may have entered through a door which had been left open because of the warm weather.

The girls' parents, Nick and Pauline, were watching television at the time.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found two nine-month-old girls with injuries.

"Both babies were taken to an east London hospital where their condition is described as serious but stable."

The girls' mother said Lola "looks dreadful. One side of her face is beautiful. The other side is like something from a horror movie".

But she said she was "laughing and smiling at people".

"Isabella is in special care, she's not faring as well," she added.

Pest controllers have since set fox traps in the back garden of the house.

A fox discovered in one of the devices on Sunday night has been destroyed by a vet.

'Humanely killed'

The police spokesman said: "Hackney environmental health officers arranged for traps to be set in the rear garden of the address.

"(On Sunday night) a neighbour informed environmental health officers that an animal could be heard in one of the traps.

Neighbours talk of their concerns over foxes

"A vet was called to establish if it was safe to move the animal. It was determined it was not and the fox was humanely killed by the pest controller at approximately 12.15am.

"The traps will remain in situ for the time being."

John Bryant, a pest control consultant who specialises in foxes, said the attack did not sound like typical fox behaviour.

He said: "They will walk into houses, walk round, mess on the bathroom floor and sometimes sleep on the bed if people are not around.

"It just doesn't make any sense to me."

In 2002, mother Sue Eastwood reported that her baby boy, Louis, was injured when a fox crept into their house in Kent while she slept.

The fourteen-week-old suffered bite marks on his head after the animal darted into the sitting room of the house in Dartford.

Maybe they finally have this guy. Unfortunate for him that he will spend his time in a Peru prison versus an Aruba prison. Peru's prisons are not know for their treatment. But again, he's bound to find several new boyfriends

Van der Sloot confesses to murder, Peruvian authorities say

Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot could be formally charged as early as Tuesday in the killing of Stephany Flores Ramirez, Peruvian government authorities said.

The government authorities said Van der Sloot confessed to murder late Monday. He will likely be held at one of three maximum security prisons -- Castro Castro, Piedras Gordas and Lurigancho, authorities said.

At his first court appearance, the judge may set a hearing date for van der Sloot and could order additional investigations in the case.

The Peruvian justice system often issues a lighter sentence in cases where the suspect confesses. That may have influenced his alleged confession.

Van der Sloot could get up to 35 years in prison. There is no death penalty or life sentence in Peru...

The fourteen-week-old suffered bite marks on his head after the animal darted into the sitting room of the house in Dartford.

this would never have happened if those namby pamby Liberal bastards had not banned hunting!!!

Hear hear! bleeding heart bastards! And who the **** leaves a house door open these days in London. She should be thankful, it could have been a London human, those things really are a pest and cause untold mayhem!

JAKARTA (AFP) - A chain-smoking Indonesian toddler has cut back to 15 cigarettes a day thanks to "therapy focused on playing", a child welfare official said Tuesday.

Two-year-old Ardi Rizal shocked the world when a video of him smoking a cigarette appeared on the Internet last month and drew attention to Indonesia's failure to regulate the tobacco industry.

Six months after his father gave him his first cigarette, the overweight boy from Sumatra island was smoking 40 a day and threw violent tantrums if his addiction was not satisfied.

Child welfare officials called in to try to wean the toddler off cigarettes said that when they played with him he did not smoke as much.

This guy must really be a lowlife - scum of the earth.

(CNN) -- Joran van der Sloot, who authorities say has confessed to the murder of a Peruvian woman, faces criminal charges in Alabama because he tried to extort $250,000 from Natalee Holloway's mother, according to an Interpol document.

U.S. authorities last week announced an arrest warrant for van der Sloot on charges of extortion and wire fraud, but they did not name the victim.

In an Interpol document obtained by CNN Wednesday, American authorities ask Peruvian police to arrest van der Sloot and begin a process of extradition to the United States. The document states that Peruvian authorities can hold him if he is facing charges there.

According to the document, around March 29, van der Sloot contacted a representative of Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway.

The Dutch citizen, who was twice arrested in connection with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway but released for lack of evidence, said he would reveal the location of the body and the circumstances surrounding her death for $25,000 in cash. He asked for $250,000 in total, the document states.

Van der Sloot and Beth Holloway's representative met in Aruba, where a payment of $10,000 was made to him, followed by a transfer of $15,000 to a personal bank account in the Netherlands, the document states.

In exchange, van der Sloot showed the representative a house where supposedly Holloway's remains were, according to the document. When records showed that the house wasn't even built at the time of her disappearance, van der Sloot admitted that he lied, Interpol said.

I think it is a good idea to get it all out of his system while he is young. It's harder to quit when you get older, good on him I say.
