Hobbes
bugger McFadden injured now - i weep  WAY too much detail. I am a tad confused if the aforementioned injury was pre-existing or occured as a result of the said act? BTW, I have been wanting to say that the Soggy Bottom Boys were very impressive last week in picking up 80 points! Blitzed the rest of us and well done. :thumbleft: Ohh, you're making me blush now... I'm sure I'll score in the mid-teens this week to make up for it though.

Stramash
am slightly irritated that I left Vermaelen out till I saw how he did. 38 points at the weekend. Guaranteed if I draft him in, he'll stop performing!! never mind; slowly slowly catchy monkey... Think we will see real patterns and leaders emerge after about gameweeks 10 -12. If you are in the bottom 6 at that time, it will really be uphill from then.

A spanking.......(sorry that was lame and obvious but it is a Fantasy Football thread and perhaps that is your fantasy?) Don't forget we have 2 new playes so they should be excluded from the end of year bet.

However, if I can be arsed, will take note of all positions at half way mark, and for second half of season, everyone is in.
zeusbheld
this is how out of the ******* loop i am. i didn't even realize there *was* a separate first half of the season wager. perhaps some kind league custodian can elaborate on where the wagers landed, so that those of us who signed up while drunk can know what we're in for? This name change will be for 14 weeks duration. lowest placed team at end of season will have name changed to winner of poll to be held before Xmas. This will last till day before start of the next season.

Stramash
Long way to go till Dec, how many people are in the wager? for the first half, everyone except the bottom 2 who were late entrants. (Andie T and Barry Wright) don't think anyone has to get the worry beads out till early November - be interesting to see when people play their wildcards
beej
I always tinker like a **** for the first half of the season and lose points hand over fist, so trying to get all of my tinkering done earlier this year.
Stramash
I always tinker like a **** for the first half of the season and lose points hand over fist, so trying to get all of my tinkering done earlier this year. high scorers among the midfielders and forwards are much as expected; Drogba, Torres, Lampard, Fabregas etc. some surprises among defenders and keepers at the moment; Jensen, Friedel, Hart and Sorensen leading the keepers, and a couple of Stoke City defenders in the top 5. These players are more likely short term scorers rather than long term; doubt if they will be top 5 come mid season, but worth inclusion just now depending on opposition. Vermaelen looking like a good long term inclusion; defending well and scoring goals.
JBJE
I missed that litle detail. **** me. I've always traded religiously and with wild abandon for the first 28-30 matches. Iain, fwiw, a lot of Fantasy League players correctly had Sorensen and Shawcross since the start of the season (I was not one of them). Conversely, a relatively small percenage of players fielded Drogba. Looks like his calf scan came out fine for Wigan this weekend.

Looks like his calf scan came out fine for Wigan this weekend. still think Sorensen, Shawcross and others I have mentioned may not be as high in the points come the mid season point. It is often the smaller teams who get hit bad by injury crises and don't have the depth of squad to cope. Can see Burnley being this season's Hull City and being in a scrap with Birmingham, Hull, Pompey and Stoke come the latter stages of the season. I guess it was inspired by your comment on the movie club thread. Or was it the book club thread.....? Treborz
Well i dont know which team you support (but i'm guessing it's one of the 'big' 4) however I doubt you would still stick by them if they fell through the divisions to league one. So give me all the stick you like, i'm proud to be a Leeds fan! P.S. We outplayed and outclassed a Liverpool side with 9 full internationals in it on Tuesday night in the cup. JBJE
The first year I moved to SW1X and by default became a Chelsea follower because that was the club the denizens of the local pub supported, Chelsea actually was deeply mired in the second division. With a team cobbled together with David Speedie, Kerry Dixon, Eddie Niedzwiecki, etc., Chelsea ascended again and had a decent season the year following. At my pub the Australian on Milner Street, we had a very mixed bunch, about half punk rocker wanna be and half British banker, and the regulars included the likes of Joe Strummer. Half the fun was the violence -- we had a weird affiliation with the forerunners of the Lazio Irriducibili of those days. I bet all of those guys, if still alive today, are Chelsea fans. Have you noticed this year relative to the past, there are many more price falls than there are price rises? To date on a cumulative basis, 51 players have risen in price a cumulative of 10.2, while 328 players have fallen a cumulative 64.8 in value. That is quite a ratio of about 6 losers for every winner, more exaggerated than in prior years although I don't have comparative stats to show such is the case. LakeGeneve
Van Persie won't play today if his wife gives birth!!. How selfish can a guy be?! A football match is a once in a lifetime event whereas Van Persie can attend a birth with his wife any year he wants..... Thankfully he is playing because the Gunners defense is having a bad day. And thankfull he just evened it up again.
CiaranM
see this is why i hate fantasy football - i tossed a coin between Fab and RVP for captain today and got RVP... i should be enjoying my team being in a great position to go on and win but i'm thinking don't sub RVP off and get him a goal i'm just glad arsenal did a damm sight f**king better than my fantasy football team !!!
