More People Bring Sickness to Work

Sometimes your co-workers make you sick -- literally.

As flu and cold season sets in this winter, employers are increasingly concerned about "presenteeism" -- a phenomenon in which contagiously sick employees show up for work.

I wrote about this and bring some useful tips to you all Because I was ill with cold and cough for 2 weeks. Why ? Because my stupid colleague from KUL had cough with out cover for 4days. All of my staffs are ill and take leaves, some ill but did not want to leave. But I asked them to leave all.

Protection for Employees To avoid infection

Recommends that you follow some simple precautions:

  • Cover your mouth and nose during coughing and sneezing.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.

Ttips to battle presenteeism and avoid getting sick:

  • If your company offers a flu-vaccination program, consider taking advantage of it.
  • If you are a manager, set a good example by staying home when you're sick.
  • Encourage fellow employees who have sore throats, fevers, or other flu symptoms to go home.

Some respondents in the Workforce Institute survey said they were upset with their employers for not actively encouraging sick employees to stay home.

Others suggested their employers' time-off policies may subtly foster presenteeism.

"I don't get sick days, I just get paid time off that includes both sick days and vacation," said Taj, a software product manager in San Francisco. "If I didn't have the option to work from home, I'd definitely show up at work so as not to use up my paid time off."

"Employees are craving flexibility from their employers," said Stuart Itkin, chief marketing officer at Kronos, based in Massachusetts.

"'Working 9 to 5' is no longer the universal employee anthem. To reduce presenteeism best practice organizations are providing employees with flexibility and rewarding them based on results."

Yes, I am supposed to be in KL at present, but when I spoke to my client and told him that I have a bad case of flu, he said "Stay in Bangkok and get well...we will see you whenever...don't come back as it will spread through the building!"

Absolutely right in fact, and sadly I did infect my lovely fiance, Grezzzy, but she is now getting better and as she was not as run down as me prior to Xmas, she has not had it as bad.

On that note, it is really much more important than you may realise to get the correct amount of rest and eat properly etc. In the couple of months leading up to Xmas I was averaging about 3 hours sleep a night because I had some deadlines to meet on a couple of projects. The result was that my work suffered and then I did too because I was too tired to work properly, and too run down to fight off the flu when it hit.

So to my Grezzzy, when you read this sweety, I am publicly apologising for making you sick, and I hope that as it is now going away, it will not return. Love you...

Greer
