If a manufacturer is putting out a product to the consumers for their own profit, they have an obligation to ensure that that product is safe. Now, the definition of safe can be as narrow or broad depending on the origin of the manufacturer. The U.S. is very strict in this arena. Trust me, you can sue for anything here. On the flip side, it is the consumers prerogative not to buy a product if they don't think it's safe. Ultimately, it IS the responsibility of the child's guardian to ensure the CHILD is safe.
