it's raining stems of pipes

Outside it's raining very hard. Here we say: 'Het regent pijpestelen'. It literally means: it rains stems of pipes. Every single drop looks like a pipe's stem.... I actually saw that when I just came home by bike.

It's still autumn here, but should be changing to winter already. It's not very cold: just between 8-13 degrees Celsius.

Luckily it didn't rain yesterday. It was an important day for children, for the 'Sinterklaas' period reached it's climax: On the 5th of December all kids are showered with presents, just like Santa Claus in other countries. I will tell you another time about this festival... Sinterklaas = Saint Nicolas = Santa Claus.

For now I leave you with some rainy expressions in Dutch. Don't know if anyone is interested. Maybe it's handy for the Duch lessons of Ghee.

Here comes the rain:

het regent een paar spatjes - it's raining some splashes

het druppelt een beetje - it's dripping rain

het miezert - it's drizzling rain (steady rain but very small drops)

het regent - it rains

het giet - it's (down)pouring rain , it's pissing down, the rain is coming down in buckets

het stortregent - it's driving rain

het regent pijpestelen - it's raining cats and dogs Have a great and dry day!
