The Forbiddem Kingdom

I've been hoping that for a long time Jackie Chan and Jet Li would do a movie together... Finally, The wish I'd been hoping for came true so this was waaaaaay too good to pass up. Ater it was done? the weak story line takes away much of the potential excitement...I felt cheated!

Trailers can be deceiving, which is the case most of the time with upcoming films. The Forbidden Kingdom would've seemed like a solid martial-arts adventure flick, and it could have been, only if the story didn't play out like...err I don't know, something or other meets 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon perhaps?'. We have a kid who happens to be a kung-fu lover, but not one to stand up and defend himself. So after being forced to break into a pawn shop by thugs, and following a " I'm gonna break my foot up in your a$$ chase", he's blown off to ancient China to return a stick?.............. What's he gonna do man?

Ok 1st, Jackie Chan -- he's doing his usual comedic, bad-ass kung-fu master thing, whose character not only reveals the history of the staff the teenager must return, but tags along as well as train the the young kid. Jet Li's a mysterious monk and a female warrior with a vendetta join up as well (she's a cuite by the way). As the teenager gains confidence to training, the bad guys try to stand in his way of returning the staff, including an evil, immortal king and a vicious witch. What will happen next?

Despite the already familiar storyline, the film does have a few fun moments, including a rather lengthy spare between Chan and Li, and some good comedy bits from the two martial-arts stars. Sadly, the rest of the film's fight sequences aren't particularly ground-breaking or adrenaline-fueled as I like, but mostly just provide some fill-ups. And the film ends on such a lazy and corny note too, makes you wonder if the filmmakers cared about it at all.

Well, if 'The Forbidden Kingdom' is still the movie you want to see?, you're sure to still enjoy the fight scenes and quirky comedic bits. It'll hold up 'till 'Iron Man' is released. This I'll see at Siam Paragon Or Central World nearby Mo Chit.

Yeah, some great martial arts films have really bad story lines. I bought "The Protector (Tom-Yum-Goong)" dvd staring Tony Jaa. I think he's a great martial artist, but I can't stop laughing. The guy literally has only one line the whole damn movie -- "Where's my f**king elephant!?"
