I find it very interesting that earlier this year i read in travel and leisure magazine that Bangkok is voted the number one city in the world.To tell the truth in have always enjoyed my breaks in Thailand and never had any problems. An article in the the UK telegraph puts Thailand between Cudan and chad in the top 10, because of the polital unrest recently. New york or Baltimore are to me  more dangerous then bangkok.Maybe the large number of road accidents were factored into this?

I am fro the UK, and I have ALWAYS said, I would rather walk around Bangkok , drunk and oblivious to reality, than in London, any day of the week.

It's so true though. As someone who is American and lives in Europe I can say that while I've not felt safe at times in cities like Paris, Rome, London, Los Angeles, New York, etc . . . I have never once felt in any sort of physical danger in my life in BKK.

I always tell people who ask me about whether or not BKK is safe:

If you get drunk and pass out on the sidewalk you can expect to wake up with your pockets empty and every piece of jewelry on you missing. But the chances of someone trying to violently remove you from your property are pretty slim.

agree with stu never have i worried about any crime,problems when in town.
