OFFICIAL: REDS FANS LOUDEST IN THE WORLD

Liverpool supporters earned some small consolation for their Carling Cup defeat after setting a new record for the world's loudest fans.

The noise levels at both ends of the ground for the final and the Merseysiders roared ahead with a maximum reading of 130.7 decibels, four decibels higher than Chelsea and two higher than the current world record for the 'Loudest Stadium Roar' held by the Denver Broncos (128.74 decibels, set in October 2000).

We might have lost the 2005 Carling Cup final on the pitch but when it came to the supporters off it, the Liverpool fans were in a different league to their southern rivals and not just in terms of noise.

As was the case when Liverpool played Arsenal and Manchester United in the same Cardiff stadium in recent years, the Liverpool supporters not only made the most noise but also provided the most colour.

A handful of flags with the St Georges Cross on the them in the Chelsea end was no match for the colour, wit and originality of the hundreds of banners and flags on display in the Liverpool end.

Amongst all of the flags and chants, it was a scene in Westgate Street before the match that really summed up the unique nature of Liverpool fans. As the street bristled with anticipation with kick-off less than an hour away, a sea of Liverpool fans opened up to allow three men through with a massiveframed portrait of Rafael Benitez. The street went mad as this giant Rafa portrait made it's way down the street. It was the sort of scene you see on the news in the Middle East not outside a football stadium in Wales but it looked pure class and again highlighted that off the pitch at least, we're a class above every team in Europe.

glad to hear that jay.cup finals have always been great days out-went on enough trips to wembley in the glory days of the 80's.

things have changed a bit since all seater stadiums though.i went back home to liverpool for the first time in 11 years at christmas and went to a couple of games.things have changed since i was last on the kop.used to be 2.50 pounds to stand when i was last there(now its 28.50 pounds to sit) but the atmospheres not the same any more.at the newcastle game you could hear a mouse fart in the kop even though we won 3-1.compare that to the noise made when stevie gerrard scored that scorcher against olypiakos in the dying minutes two weeks earlier-the bloody roof nearly came down that night.

liverpool fans seem to be a reflection of the teams commitment-all up for it in the big games but sadly listless in the lower profile games....guess thats why we are where we are in the league.

the rapour with the players seems to have gone a bit.we used to sing about and take the piss out of our players antics on the pitch, but those were the good old days when players knew just how much it meant to pull on that red jersey on a saturday afternoon, and besides we were winning trophies every year.

dont get me wrong jay and i dont wanna sound like an old grandad from the main stand......but it aint the same as when i was a lad.

You are right stevesaregreat we are not the same as was in the 80s as I remember those were the days the lad were proud of the shirt and so much the money, Same for the National team we dont have a any Bryan Robson's or Pearces there any more no desire with no talent, coz of too many Foreign players, was at the Newcastle game great win no atmosphere.

You are proberly right thaibeast, Stevie want medals to show his kids I will understand if he leaves but we will replace him sadley with a foreign player and not a local, I remember we always fielded at least 3 home grown players our vat in dry, but from what I have seen with top london teams we have to have more class on the pitch, My last say on this is that SKYSPORTS have ruined the Football in the UK with the money and all, anyway if they offered me 120,000 pounds like Beckam Ill think I would do it too but I couldnt do Posh.

Michael Owen has been the only sensible player to come from our game beside Lineker.

I had my say, thanx for your comments all are valued take care.
