PSV 3 AC Milan 1
MASSIMO AMBROSINI booked a Champions League date with Liverpool as AC Milan rode their luck all the way to Istanbul.
But Rafa Benitez knows his Reds have nothing to fear in the final on May 25, after brave PSV proved the Italians are anything but unbeatable.
Ambrosini?s 90th-minute header was just enough to edge Milan through on away goals but, as Jose Mourinho might have said, the best team definitely did not win last night.
Now Liverpool will head to their date with destiny convinced they can upset the odds once again after masterminding famous victories over Juventus and Chelsea.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti confessed: ?We are very lucky to be going to the final, because we did not start to play until we were two goals down.
?We scored in the last minute in the first leg of this semi-final and we have done the same here. But we will have to be much better in the final.
?It will be a totally different style of game against Liverpool, as they are much more defensive than PSV.
?We saw from Liverpool?s game against Chelsea that they give up hardly any chances and we know they will be a very difficult team to break down.?
Disappointed PSV coach Guus Hiddink declared: ?Benitez is an experienced coach. He?s clever enough to know what to do in the final.
The Dutch champions needed just nine minutes to reduce Milan?s fabled defence to a nervous wreck when South Korean midfielder Ji-Sung Park played the ball up to the edge of the area.
Jaap Stam thought he had done enough to avert the danger as he tussled with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
But as the ball broke loose, Park raced in to lash a left-foot drive high into Dida?s goal.
With Hernan Crespo on the bench and Andriy Shevchenko unable to make any kind of impact, the visitors were virtually inviting pressure on to themselves.
Mark van Bommel and Phillip Cocu were running the show in midfield and Milan?s inability to retain possession will be further cause for encouragement for Liverpool.
In the 65th minute Cocu powered in a back-post header from Young-Pyo Lee?s deep cross to level the aggregate scores.
But just when Milan looked to be following Chelsea on to the Champions League scrapheap, Ambrosini?s pricless away goal turned this thriller decisively.
Still PSV were not finished and Cocu?s injury-time volley levelled the scores again to promote further panic in the Milanese ranks.
Steven Gerrard had better practise lifting trophies. Milan are not as good as they think.
