LIVERPOOL KINGS
we won we won we won
Well what a night no words can explain it just a bloody great finale we beat the best we are the BEST. Now have headache sore throat going back to bed, but fu**ing so HAPPY
STEVEN GERRARD capped a night of Champions League glory by pledging his future to Liverpool.
The Kop side were crowned kings of Europe for the FIFTH time after the most incredible fightback in football history.
Then skipper Gerrard put an end to thoughts of a move away from Anfield and said: ?How could I ever leave this place?
?I?ll be talking to the manager soon and, I have to say, it does look very good. But how could I ever leave after a night like this ? and after all the other nights I have experienced like that this season??
The Reds were 3-0 down at half-time but turned the 50th final into the most dramatic by roaring back to level on the hour.
Then they held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out with keeper Jerzy Dudek the hero with two saves.
Gerrard said: ?This has to go down as the greatest night of my life. At half-time I thought it would be impossible, we had a mountain to climb.
?I thought it was going to be a dressing room full of tears and disappointment. But there is a lot of belief in this team and we kept fighting right to the end.
?We?ve beaten some magnificent sides this season and no one can say we don?t deserve to be European champions.?
Boss Rafa Benitez was full of joy after capping an astonishing debut season in England. He admitted: ?This has got to be the greatest night of my life in football.
?We knew we needed to change things at half-time. Then we scored one, then another ? and we had a lot of belief that suddenly we could do it.?
Liverpool get to keep the trophy after winning it for a fifth time, and now both Gerrard and Benitez are desperate to defend it.
UEFA will give the final decision when their executive committee meets next month.
And Gerrard said: ?I hope the people above allow us to do that. It?s called the Champions League, so the champions should get a crack at defending it.?
AC Milan chief Carlo Ancelotti said: ?I think Liverpool should be allowed to defend it.?
Liverpool will cheer the win with a parade in the city tonight.
