Best Liverpool XI?

Remember Liverpool of Old?

EVERY fan compares the great recent Manchester United and Arsenal sides.

Even Jose Mourinho's current Chelsea XI are threatening to rewrite the record books.

But the benchmark for every team to aspire to has to be the Liverpool side of the late 70s and early 80s.

Seven league titles in nine years, four consecutive League Cup victories and, above all, four European Cups.

So, the hard part is not picking Liverpool's greatest XI - it's more who you leave out.

hiya jay,not been on tf for a while.......lots going on in my life.....bit too much actually

but the biggest difference between the team then and the team now is three fold

firstly the old team was virtually the same week in and week out-you had your starting 11 players the same unless one got injured so they played more together and had a greater understanding of each other(compare this to now-the constant chopping and changes to the team).....yes i know the game maybe a bit faster now and theres alot more games to be played in a season and as other teams have bigger squads you can afford to rest players

secondly and i think more importantly is the pride associated with been picked and pulling on that famous red jersey--shankley and paisley would have kicked half our players up the arse by now as theres still certain players who seem to be going through the motions....the same thing is going on at united at the moment with roy keanes recent outbursts

and thirdly its about the atmosphere at anfield......the big games like against chelsea, the noise spurs the players on....midweek night matches are always more noisy than sat afternoon games and often liverpool supporters make more noise travelling away than they do at home.all seater terraces spoiled alot of the old atmosphere and the players react to this too.......they always said the noise from the kop was always worth a goal start.....we miss that nowadays

anyway.....we seem to be getting a small run of results now....and by the time its christmas and weve caught up on our games in hand im sure we will be in the top 4 and not languishing in mid table

anyway whatever happens..........WELL NEVER WALK ALONE :))

Thanx for your imput Steve glad to see you are still around mate do take catre off your self.

I strongly agree with the pride of the jersey our 2 best player are Gerrard & Carra both home grown from Kids as for the rest of them its just another team which pays well, granted they have skill and talent but as Wigan have shown you only need pride and the want to Win, plus the play as a team and not individuals.

Your point 1 I agree the old saying "practise makes perfect"

c u around mate.
