NewZealandGuy
Sawadee khraab everyone 8) , 2 weeks from now I will travel to Udon Thani and into Isaan for the first time  . I am nervous because my Thai is as good as some of the Sweeds English, and heard that many in Isaan do not speak Farang Lang as well as their university educated (no insults intended, I DO know people from Isaan with University Degrees, and realise there is a prestigious university in Khon Kaen) cousins in Bangkok. I also want to plan my days as best as possible time wise, as I need to be in Bangkok by a certain date to escape to Singapore a few days later 8) . My question is, does anyone have a copy they could send to me, or tell me where to find, an accurate up to date time table of bangkok Bound Rail / Train and Bus services? If anyone could help this  clueless  Farang, I would be most greatful
sunsnow
Trains in Thailand: http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/7153/udon.htm http://www.udonmap.com/getting_to_udon.html There is very regular buses from/to Udon Thani, so at this moment exact timetables are unnecessary I bet. From those link you get idea how long it takes by bus and train. Then there is ofcourse the low-cost airliners whose one way tickets if you are in good luck don't cost a lot at all and are more comfy and darn much faster. There really ain't much to experience in taking those buses imho or trains if u just take a nonstop trip from UT to BKK. So if you have the time, do take the train atleast that gives you the freedom to walk about and maybe have conversations and the possible sigths thru the window as you are on your first trip towards Isan. Bus is the faster option and more regular.
NewZealandGuy
Thank you, I saw seat61 and also saw the official Thai Railways site, which showed different times for the north east line. I definately want to take the train as the sights and smells are purely the reason I have chosen to visit Isaan, plus the hope that I won;t be swamped with other tourists clambering for a photo beside some statue like other parts of Th around Songkran. I will fly into Udon via Air Asia, after picking up a nifty 40 bath flight Hope you have a great day, and thanks again! Hamish
