Ong Bak

Yesterday, I went to see "Ong Bak" on the opening night in North America. I understand that this movie was originally released in Thailand in 2003.

The plot was crap, but the action sequences were amazing! The movie was intense, gritty, and brutally violent. As a dude, I must say that I was thoroughly entertained! Even a girl I went with said that the movie was "Rad!" Panom Yeerum (a.k.a. Tony Jaa) is the man! Some say that he is the next Jackie Chan. Is Tony Jaa a big star in Thailand yet? He should be because he is an incredible stuntman/martial artist.

Unlike other martial arts movies, Ong Bak featured the power and force of Muay Thai instead of the grace of Wu-shu or Kung Fu. Watching the kicks, punches, knees, and elbows pulverise flesh and bone was truly satisfying! I heard that there is an Ong Bak drinking game where you must take one drink every time Ting (Tony Jaa) knees someone and two drinks every time he elbows somebody in the head. You are sure to get drunk quickly playing that game!

My favorite scenes took place at the fight club on Khao San Road. Has anyone been to an illegal fight club like the one in "Ong Bak" or "Blood Sport"? Do they really exist?

Anyway, I am going to pick up a few copies of this movie while I am in Thailand for my friends and I so that we can watch this movie over and over at home. It is *that* fun!

So, when does Ong Bak 2 come out?
