FM 107 ?The Metropolis?.

Lately I?ve been listening to FM 107.00 ?The Metropolis?. Even though it?s broadcast out of Bangkok, I can still pick it up, most of the time, in Ban Chang, Rayong.

I like it because it plays a lot of tunes that I grew up with, along with some that I?ve never heard of, plus a few that I?d like to forget! Ha ha.

The English language news broadcasts are a bit of a treat, too. There?s Aussie news, BBC and VOA. As I don?t have cable at my house, it?s nice to get my news in spoken form.

Ok, they also seem to be part of the propaganda service for the Royal Thai Government, talking about how TV?s, soccer and good intentions are going to make a difference in the south. But that propaganda is kind of like reading the front page of the Bangkok Post most days, good for a laugh.

When I first found this station, I was in Bangkok. I thought that I?d loose it by the time I got to the rest stop along the motorway. But that signal stayed strong all the way to the route 36 turn off. And most of the time it still manages to make it over the hills in Ban Chang to bring me ?Classics from the 60?s, 70?s and 80?s?.

Im a big fan of FM 107 and ever seen the metropolis band play such a kind of music at the Nile Night Club, Mandarin Hotel. You should visit there sometimes as they play music in 60s-80s. The place not so nice but the rest is fine....really fun dancing!

Just as I was leaving work in my truck tonight, I heard the dj say that someone in Pattaya had complained that the signal wasn't very good. It's been crap the last few days. But I chalked it up to sun flares or military radio activity (near the Port and Utapao airport).

But it's interesting that it seems to also be targetted to Pattaya, as well. Maybe they have towers along the way and I'm picking up a signal from a southern tower. I don't know much about it and I don't really care. I just enjoy the radio when I'm driving.

I'll check out a few of these other stations, too.

Kusie, I'm not doing the shows on heavymetalradio.net anymore. But if you do a search on their play list, I think you can request some of my old, hour-long shows. Look for "Billy Z". I've got 'em on the disk if you want a copy :D

What would be REALLY cool is if we could get Sirius here in Thailand. It's overload, but it's good stuff. Especially if you're a talk radio nut like me.

This station has now gone rap/hip hop, and in a bad way. You wouldn't want your 7 year old listening to this. I had it on the other morning and 3 songs in a row were talking about sex and/or "grabbing yo girl by the hair 'cuz she likes it that way" and "she'll give you what you want" and "smack the ***** in the head", etc. Last night, there was a song by a woman talking about "f*cking" and bringing condoms (good to be using condoms, but does it all have to be about sex?).

I'm not sure who listens to this crap. But it's pretty tasteless, in my opinion. Ok, the disco songs of the old format wasn't any 'better'. But at least it was fairly clean. And sometimes on the old station, you'd hear Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest and the Scorpions. All much better than the gangster crap that's being played now!
