spacers,

last weekend i watched 'the russian ark'

it's a very beautiful film but sort of a bit too dark...i couldnt really see what was going on very well....the visual is very fluid but the story is slow...

we almost fall asleep a couple times eventho it's such a very interesting film.

what make it so fluid is because this film is shot in only one single shot!!!! the camera rolls for 90 from the beginning straight to the end. no editing, not cuts...isnt that amazing?????

i wonder how many times they did shoot this film...

it's either the script was very loose or everything must be very accurate b4 they started shooting or they probably did a lot of reheardsal...but i'm not surprised that it's very dark...i think it's bcoz the director needed to hide something that shouldnt be seen from the audiences.

it's great! the story based on russian history...it can be considered as a learning material for russian history class...started off from Peter the Great and Catherine the Great.

altho it's such an interesting movie..but i havent finished watching it yet...will have to continue another time...

try if u can...

Jane...I think you should compile a list of must see films....and at least send it to me!! I guess you are really into your independent films....

Have you seen Zatoichi yet or Audition? Also since you have irish connections, have you seen the film about Veronica Guerin (spelling?)?

i wonder how could u find those movies in thailand, Mark!

havent seen Veronica Guerin yet.

most of the movies i mentioned in my jrls have recieved cannes awards but that's not the reason that i picked them from the video store. it's the vibes. Zatoichi and Audition?...maybe next weekend ;)

by the way, Elephant from Gus Van San looks interesting to me.

recommedning auditin to somebody without a warning is a bit crueal sarpedon... also zatoichi - while entertaining - is a s souless as all kitanos stuff. like watching a painting. i recommend "twilight samurai" instead ;)

elephant is good
