Virus or spyware problems?

I've recently had some problems with my comp, all down to some nasty little bugs i picked up off the internet. I have spent many hours trying to eliminate whatever got on my computer, and i am glad to say, have had some success. So, in the hope of helping others defeat this problem without any financial cost to them, here's some things i have found useful.... (oh and if anyone has any other useful tips i would be glad to hear)

Problem 1.

Annoying popups and adverts.

Solution

www.webroot.com make a programme called "spy sweeper". You can download it for free. It does many useful things, one being a comprehensive sweep of ur comp for adware bugs and the like. Seems to get rid of all adware bugs. (I have found and tried many other similar programmes, there must be hundreds out there, but of all i tried, this one was the most effective).

Problem 2

Browser Hijacking. I didnt know what this was until it started happening to me. Basically a bug kept changing my internet explorer default homepage (obviously that was thailandfriends.com :D ). And no matter how often i changed it back under "internet settings", the bug changed it back to some dodgy search page.

Solution

Again, spysweeper is one solution. It has a function that alerts u everytime your default page is changed (and whenever things r added to ur favourites list), and gives u the option of deleting them. But this is not an ideal sotuion as it doesnt actually get rid of the bug, just removes its effect, so to do this i found a programme called....

Noadware from www.noadware.com. Now this one does another search but seems to find the actual bugs themsleves. Only problem is, u cant delete them unless u subscribe to it (about $30), which being tight with my money I refused to do. Luckily however, it gives u the exact location of the bug, and so u can manually deleted them yourself. And voila - problem fixed!

Another very handy programme i found was "HijackThis", which for me was beyond my understanding of computers, but after a few hours of playing around, it helped me get rid of some bugs. i think i found this through a suggestion on a journal on TF, so thanx to whoever that was.

Problem 3

General slow internet, freezes, ceasures and other annoying time wasting problems.

Solution

Probably the most impressive tool i found (as it is totally automatic) is www.pcpitstop.com

this website searches ur computer whilst u r online, and after 5 mins or so gives u a thorough evaluation of ur system, and how to improve it. I followed the simple advice, and within moments my whole comp was running that much smoother and faster.

So, several months of research have led me to the point of having a clean running comp once again. And i know its true now - those damn porn sites give u so many viruses!!!
