Cycling Uthaithani
Due to my insuing lay off I am forced to take leave Angel of Yala and I were saving for the Sri Lanka and Mongolia vacations. Low grumble and Grrrrrrrr. BUT! tomorrow I will arrange Bike rentals at Pro-Bike and a pick-up truck rental on Lang Suan or Wireless and come Friday morning we are off to Uthaithani and a friends forest resort at the foot of Huay Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. So this should be good. We have been once before and it is surprisingly beautiful being just 3 hours from the Mighty Krugthep.
Additionally the Mrs is keen on purchasing some land within our friends resort for a future retirement home set amongst the mountains and forests. I too am quite partial to this opportunity. The roads are great and the countryside is ideal for cycling. We are looking at about 200 sq wah and then a planting approximately 180-200 Teak trees on the land. (I used to do this for a living.) Return in 15 years to crop it and have money to start building the house or use the wood for the house.
The best thing about this land is that our friend is the son of the Agricultural Advisor to the King- good people and he knows his stuff regarding agriculture and forestry which shows in his selection of the resort location and the way in which he is developing the resort.
This will be my first purchase of land anywhere in the world so I am of course, cautious. I asked a question to the son which totally threw him for a loop. I asked, once all the title deeds are sold and people build and live here over the next 10 years- how will you manage the solid waste- the trash? As the area is not serviced by the Amphur and 50-70 country homes owned by afluent people- will create allot of trash and they will not be happy with burning and dumping to close by. He then offered me a job to design a solid waste plan. YIKES!
So- is this the mircle position the Maw-Doo told me would be offered to me? Could I do this? I am not a waste disposal expert by any means. People have master degrees in this and I only know a little. I also know that within in all of Thailand there is only one high tech modern land fill down in Rayong run by Waste Management Siam. All the rest are a joke. How serious is the family to do it right. If I or they develop the land filll incorectly the ground water gets contaminated. The everyone is pissed! If it costs to much it won't get done. And trash seperation by the household has bnever been done in Thailand- would the people agree to do it? People everywhere are generally lazy- but these are all educated professionals. Woudl they sign the contracts? If Angel of Yala is offered the position with ARC at the Umphang Refugee Camp this woud be very close to her! It would still be a ***** to get into Umphang! Bus to Mae Sot and then 3.5 hours on top of a sung-tow along the death highway and a bridge over a canyon that collapsed back in 1997 due to rain- that was a scary climb out of Umphang I did back then.
Questions and no answers.
Well at least we'll have good bike rides this weekend.
