Memorial Day.......

I'm sure I may get some negative comments on this journal due to some public opinion about the United States, but tomorrow is "Memorial Day"......a day when many americans take time out to reflect and give thanks to the many men and women who have served this country in the armed forces and in many cases gave "everything" in defense of the freedoms that we enjoy.        Now I don't agree with all the decisions that our politicians make or the situations they have gotten us into, but I do consider myself fortunate to live in a country where we enjoy so many "rights" and "freedoms".  Unfortunately, lately there seems to be many americans who seem to have forgotten about the sacrifices that were made so that the "citizen" could freely enjoy these rights and freedoms....many have become spoiled and ungrateful. I hope on this day some of these individuals will think about what this day is and the meaning of it, not simply just a day just to take off work.      I ran across this today, and as an american, it is so true........

It is the soldier, not the reporter,

who has given us Freedom of Press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,

who has given us Freedom of Speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,

who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag,

who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag

that allows the protester to burn the flag.

Yes Yuri,

Understand how you could feel that about America, and god knows we certainly have our faults. Still a very young country and not perfect by a long shot, but you have to admit that there are many places that are far worse.

Sorry, I respect our good soldiers, but soldiers don't give us freedom of speech, freedom of the press, or freedom to demonstrate.

Burma has soldiers, and the people of Burma have none of those things.

Soldiers protect our country, but it is the people of the country who have decided what freedoms they will have. It is the people through their representatives that drafted the constitution and make the laws.

Soldiers may play a role in protecting our freedoms - and some give their lives doing that - but they don't "give" us our freedoms.

This poem is very similar to Jack Nicholson's rant in "A Few Good Men." And we all know what that sounded like.

Apparently, Loburt isn't an American living in the USA.......just another lost farang living in someone else's country other than his own? You can't have any respect for another, if you don't respect for your own........lol

And I guess you're just some overweight ugly frustrated woman in California who isn't getting any so has to get her rocks off on a website about Thailand.

Potluck, did you graduate grade school? Did you learn to read? Did you read that the first thing I wrote in my comment was that I respect our soldiers?

I respect the men and women of our armed forces, and am grateful to them for DEFENDING and PROTECTING our freedoms.

But they don't GIVE us our freedoms.

Apparently you slept through civics and social studies in high school because you don't understand the American way. LOL.
