The Thai alphabet was probably derived from, or at least influenced by, the Old Khmer alphabet. According to tradition it was created in 1283 by King Ramkhamhaeng (¾èâعÃÒäÓá˧ÃËÒÃÒª).

-For some consonants there are multiple letters. Originally they represented separate sounds, but over the years the distinction between those sounds was lost and the letters were used instead to indicate tones.

-Thai is a tonal language with 5 tones. The tone of a syllable is determined by a combination of the class of consonant, the type of syllable (open or closed), the tone marker and the length of the vowel.

-There are no spaces between words, instead spaces in a Thai text indicate the end of a clause or sentence.

The tone marker sounds are adjusted one tone up when applied over the (very common) low class consonants.

For example over a mid or high class consonant, the " è " mai aek will make the low tone.

But when used over a low class consonant it will produce a falling tone sound.

There is a bit of a mistake there when you call the " é " mai toh the "medium tone". It is the "falling tone"

The medium tone is actually called "siang samahn" and is in many words with no tone signs.

about mai aek ,mai toh , and all tone I just try to find the way to tell you that we compare to the general words (bese tone).that is why i try to find the way to put sound on, the tone will change if you put tone with hight and low class alphabet

but do not think too much about that just think that you are singing when you speak thai, sometimes just forget those confusing rules,I will tell you my way to speak thai later
