There is a show called 'locked up abroad' on the national geographic channel I sometimes catch. I honestly have no idea what's the point of it. Usually NG has a tendency to try and show the good sides of every culture or the very bad sides. Sometimes I wonder if they're trying to be like see we're better then them or something.

This show is especially confusing on it's point. It shows westerners ...which on most of the episodes have been of some European country or another getting arrested in some country or another. The funny thing is they are breaking the law and usually it's drug dealing and not like small amounts but kilos of coke or something. Then how deplorable the conditions are from what they're used ot and how they didn't deserve it. The criminal then ALWAYS does nothing but run straight to their embassy of choice, amnesty international, etc whinning because they broke the law, how it's inhumaine they are locked up in those deplorable conditions. Even though the rest of the countries they are in deal with it but because they are from the west they don't deserve such deplorable conditions. lol

I find it more funny watching people who are criminals thinking because they are in some 3rd world country they can get away with it. So is the show suppose to make you feel bad for these people. Maybe to make you feel better for where you live and what you have. Maybe it's suppose to deter people from thinking of breaking laws in another country because other countries laws are much much more severe.

What ever it is .... makes for good tv. lol

While I was working in Colombia, South America, I met a man on the beach of Cartagena. He told me that he got caught smuggling several kg of cocaine in the USA and served time in a federal prison before being deported. He said it was the best time of his life and that the standard of living and lifestyle in the US federal prison was better than if he had graduated from university in Colombia (except no sex with women). He told me that he longed to go back to the regimen of reading, watching TV, exercise and three square meals a day.
