The princess was asked at a press conference following her talk whether she agreed with protesters who say they are acting on behalf of the monarchy.

"I don't think so. They do things for themselves."

The journalist's take: The princess of Thailand said Thursday that she does not believe protests in her home country are being staged to benefit the monarchy.

Kao Sod newspaper gave an interpretation by following the foreign source above.

PAD's take: I didn't demand them to protest. They do things "by themselves".

My take: "I don't think so" is intended to state that she disagrees with the protester since she was asked if she agrees with the protests. Then she gives a supplements that they do things for and by themselves. For me the two interpretation do not contradict one another. Of course, the protests do things for and by themselves.

But I wonder if the PAD's interpretation is possible too? English is so difficult and ambigious.

Can Princess just say it again in Thai language?

she was asked a typical jouranlists double question - her answer - "I don't think so. They do things for themselves." She did not answer the question directly, to have done so would have put her in a lot of ****.

She answered the question the best way she could - with dignity above politics. She had no wish to appear in the daily news the next day 1 way or the other... Fair play to the girl, she did the best thing possible at the time..

Maybe its time some of these 'Low rent' Thai gossip columnists stopped trying to nail people in the Royal Family and started having a good look at themselves and their own country.

The whole underlying issues are none of my damn business, but I really don't like 'gutter journalism' when I see it...

In my opinion, the Royal should step out and speak about it because PAD always claim that they are fighting for the monarchy against PPP which conspires to overthrown the monarchy. Sondhi hints again and again that Queen Sirikit is on his side. So many Thai people decide to join PAD because they believe that it is true.

Read carefully at "My take" line which explains how I take what the Princess mean by saying "I don't think so.They do things for themselves." I think that by saying "I don't think so" she means to denounce PAD.

But I am not 100% sure about my interpretation because my English skills is not at an advanced level.

Now PAD is attacking Kao Sod as distorting the Princess' speeach.

Perhaps neither of the interpretations is wrong.

Perhaps it?s time for Thais learn how to ?think? for ourselves, in stead of put our responsibility on the Royal family or on those so-called leaders. "

If i live in Denmark like you, I would say probably whatever I want against whoever I can. But here is Thailand, we can't have any open talks because it's the LAW which called Lèse Majesté!

We,Thai, never been taught to think for themselfs after 60 years Propaganda and Poo Yai System but i would like to see that much ppl stand up and speak up about those topic. That would change sth. I do believe that those family is divided as well. Anyway those family seems to have to do with every problem in Thailand. negative or positive.

My take on the PAD protests after being there myself looking how they seem. Presumption 1) Royal family is above politics. HENCE: PAD cannot be saying they "love the King" or "are protecting monarchy because if they do so, they are breaking against rule number one, that Royal family is above politics and what PAD is doing is very much about daily politics.

Thats what I think. Let Thai royalty be like they should be atleast on paper: representative monarchy, nice thing to have with no real powers over daily politics. Like the British royalty these days. Gossip column material and something to be proud of but no real active participation to anything happening in the country no more. Those days should be over.

There are Thais who are not in favor of the current way monarchy works in Thailand. And they are no less "Thais" than anyone else. But unfortunatly their voices can never be heard publicly as they risk a lot of things by thinkin' differently due to the current way most Thai peoples minds are wired thru "education"..

English is tricky and AP is an associate of CNN - which means that the news piece had been planned just like when Thaksin was interviewed by Dan River.

The question really put her royal highness in a position which she couldn't say yes or no. If she had said the PAD do things for the Monarchy, then she would have been viewed as she supported the PAD. But when she replied to the question, "No, I don't think so they do things by themselves" - I think this was the best answer under the circumstances. Why?

1: It implies that she doesn't take side with either PAD or pro-Thaksin groups.

2: It also implies that PAD do things on their own accords - which can also means that out of love for the Monarchy and royal family, they

do things (stage protests, seize the government house, and reveal damages and corruption by Thaksin and his nominee government)

without orders or instruction from the King or members of royal family.

Clearly the question was planned by the ill-intentioned journalist in order to get her royal highness to respond with the predictable

answer, "they do things for themselves" Her royal highness didn't have choices of answer as stated above. And hence her answer

then can be intrepreted negatively by Kao-SOD...
