Life is a journey

Just Blogging about the past many weeks, it’s been restless moments; I’ve been a lot on road trips within the southern region.Every time we came out of Phuket or come back, we always stopped at PTT gas station in Phang Nga and I never failed to grab a cup of Amazon Freeze at Amazon Cafe.  Somehow, it has become my check point.  The coffee shop attendants well recognized me and maybe thinking I’m running some errands around there J26-27 Jun: Suratthani, 2nd visit my best girl’s family. 1st visit I was there for her brother’s ordination.  I’m as good as another daughter of this family.  They’re a real good family…very caring and considerate.  2 things they never fail to ask: ‘Have you eaten yet’ or when we just came home ‘Why don’t you take shower’ So I guess these are 2 most important things in this household J  They took me for a city tour regardless of how busy or exhausted from the ordination or their own errands.08-11 Jul: Nakhon Si Thammarat, visiting my folks.  The longest time I’ve ever been away from home is 1.5 yrs.
My nephew lives with my mom now and he’s growing fast.  He’s one of the sweetest boys, always being helpful considering a boy at his age and he is a real gentleman never let a lady carry a shopping basket even though he has to drag it.  “He’ll make the future most wanted BF” said Auntie Anne JI visited Wat Phra Mahathat Woromaha Vihan surrounding the big Chedi there’re many pagodas which contain ancestors’ relics and amidst those pagodas I found one with my family name on it.  He could have been one of my forefathers JIt’s good to come home.  But have you ever had a feeling like being a stranger in your hometown?  I have…so many things have changed from the time I left and the last time I came back.  It’s a good things, don’t get me wrong but I just don’t feel like I belong there anymore.Phuket has also changed enormously over the past 8 years.  The point is I grew older with it.I visited my primary school (spent 8 years studying there from kindergarten).  The old building was demolished and replaced by 4 storied building.  The para plantation along the dirt road (before was 1.5 km long wooden bridge called Sapan Yao or The Long Bridge) I walked from home to school everyday is now replaced by shop houses.  The big sala with 2 portraits of monks in the middle of the road which usually sheltered me from rain now remain only a monument. Not many of memories left to be fond of.In my last visit my mom forcefully convinced me to buy a house in the province.  Dishearten but frank I told her “I don’t know yet where I’m going to end up”.  She freaked out at me of course.  I’m still in a developing stage not yet closer to the settling down stage so far.  To buy a house or to make a home, that’s totally different things.  And I have other priority in life.  Perhaps it was just an excuse to say that I wasn’t ready.19-20 Jul: Suratthani, for my friend’s relative funeral.  I visited her uncle when he was in hospital suffering from liver cancer and 3 weeks later he passed away.  I still remember his words that he should have got his medical check up sooner and “Don’t be negligent on your health” that what he said.01-02 Aug: Phattalung, for my colleagues’ wedding.  The bride has been very helpful to me and I thought attending her wedding would’ve shown her my appreciation of what she has done well to me though I’m not thrilled about going to Phattalung after my previous several trips in a row.  And it was good spending some time with my colleagues from other departments.Phattalung has a lot of mountains, rice paddy fields and cows. We almost knocked down a cow that evening. Apparently they have right of way in Thailand. At Lampam river. This part used to be the sea but some geological incident happened and now the entire area became a fresh-water lagoon (Songkhla Lake) because supply of seawater got cut off. This lagoon is so huge it covers 3 provinces - Phattalung, Songkhla and Trang. At some point, I start missing spending my quiet time at home watching movies and playing TS3 and the malls and the beach.Oliver Goldsmith once wrote: “Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the roads and accommodations. Excellent journal. :-)

I understand about going home and feeling out of place. I had that same feeling after being away to college for a few years. Nice pictures of the temples and family and kittens! The one of your nephew running is a really good shot. That's cool that you found a possible ancestor at the temple.
