24 years ago, I studied in primary school near the temple in my village…one day I saw some woman’s funeral…our teacher told the student in class, that woman die because she didn’t wash her hand before eating…I believed teacher…Ohh how innocent!! I knew later, the dead woman is the mom of lil boy in my class, his nickname is “Toy” I was really feel sorry for him, could not imagine, how can he survive without his mom…Who will cook for him ? Who will teach him do homework? Who will hug him at bed time ? Morever, the more I pitied him, the more I treat him good, we were the good friend eachother since that time. The last day at my primary school, Toy brought 5 pieces of strawberry wafer “Sanghai” and present paper, he asked me to wrap the present for him…before I taped the present box, he droped the plastic ring into the box, I supposed that plastic ring he got it free from the snack…he said, he will give the present to the girl he liked and that ring is “engagement ring” to engaged her. 3.30 p.m. I was at school bus to back home, Toy ran to meet me at the the bus, he gave me that present box…I got big smile cause I knew, there were 5 pieces of strawberry wafer in the box…yum yum We were growing up everyday, I moved to study in secondary school in town, not much chance to meet Toy, I finished secondary school then moved to studied in Bangkok Business College, one day I was back to visit family at hometown, I was taking off from the bus, someone shout my name…he is Toy’s elder brother, he walked to me with surprise face and asked did I know about Toy news ? I shaked my head n said no I didn’t know anything, had not keep him in touch for a long time. Toy’s elder brother said “Toy just passed away a few day ago, he got accident, car crash, his funeral was at the temple near our primary school” I changed my dress into black and ride to his funeral. Toy’s elder brother led me to meet his dad…”Dad, can you remember Toy’s GF from primary school ? “ his brother said…Dad gave me a little smile but his eyes got a little red+tear droped…that day was the last day I met Toy but he could not say anything to me…..anymore. Have a beautiful sleeping forever…my Toy  Ohh..”Sanghai wafer” really remind me the beautiful memory Btw…Where is my plastic engagement ring ? who did steal it ? dammit

You did something so wonderful for him in primary school and what started as a good deed turned into something really special, a friendship and lifelong memories of lovely times shared.

I am so sad to hear that your friend passed away, too many lives are lost on our roads. We hear about these things in the media, but never realise the pain of the loss of a loved one until it is too late.

Sanghai wafers will have a special place in your memories forever...I hope you find your missing ring...
