For those of you who are looking for your dare to be great moment, you might find it in Thailand.  The advantage you have here is that most of the good ideas are not being capitalized on.  You do not have to be a business genous to start and run a successful business here, you just have to have your eyes open both here and at home.  When you are looking at any business idea you should ask yourself.

1)  What are you going to sell?

2)  How are you going to deliver it?  (are you going to buy it from somewhere and bring it here or are you going to make it here )

3)  Who are you going to sell too?

4)  Do they want it? (Do research on the ground and learn your target customer, it may be a lot different from back home)

5)  Can they afford it?  (this is an important question, because if they can't afford it you are going to have trouble finding sales )

6)  How are you going to tell them about it?

7)  What is your cost of doing business?  (In Thailand there are ways to cut corners, but watch out when you do that, because cutting corners can eliminate whole segments of the market)(In addition you need to figure for  your costs to live) ( also do not forget travel, that can be important in bangkok )

8)  Are you going to make enough?

9)  Industry specific questions?

If you have a satisfactory answer to all these questions, then you might have a viable business idea.  The next step is to begin to do further research into some of the restricted businesses.  This will effect how you set up your company.

Then do some research into starting points for your business, in other words where are you going to start selling.  If you are selling to foreigners, then you might want to locate in Phukett or Pattaya, i.e. places where there are good amounts of foreigners living.  If you are looking to sell to Thais, then Bangkok might be a good place to start.

The final step you need to ask is are you going to work with your own business, because sometimes this can save you money, but the regulatory part can be a hassle.

Once you have done all your research, then it is time to begin.  You will start by getting a PA, someone to help you do business here.  (Pick someone who can legitimately help you, the girl you met in the bar might be pretty, but she might not be the best choice)  Then you will move into incorporation, which can be a hassle, at least it was for us.  My suggestion is get someone to help you that knows what they are doing.

After this, you will create a means of staying in Thailand for yourself and budget accordingly.

Then create milestones and benchmarks for success.

Then build your business, you PA will help you with everything, so use them.  You can save a lot of money by hiring non english speaking workers, so if you are in a business that allows for that, I would seriously think about it.  Until you learn Thai, you can speak to them through your Personal Assistant.

Finally, plan to stay for a long time.  So learn Thai, if you know how to speak to the people around you, you will get a lot farther here over time.  Until you learn, use your PA for this.

In addition to that, I might say that you do not need a lot of money to start some businesses here. If you are looking to relocate here, it is not impossible and there are a host of opportunities here that can provide you with the same or more than you had back home. Thailand is not a poor country, it is a country with some poor people. There are extremely wealthy people here too, so if you are looking for your next dare to be great moment this might be your place.

Nice to hear from you, no I am not a millionaire. I just like the rest of the world, I am trying to make a living for myself. I think if you are looking for ideas on how to become a millionaire you need to talk to someone who is a millionaire, but I have plenty experience on how to start a business here, which will provide you with a good living. I have done it 3 times now with varying success. Each time more successful than the last as I learn a bit more about the Thai market.
