where you go? story
> Where you go? story
One morning I was in koh Chang, The next in AoNang Krabi.
I had hoped to jump off the flight in bkk and down to ?Sai Dai? (south bus-station) before the 24seater bus goes to krabi. Things don?t work as planned.
In Bangkok Airport,
I was too lazy (but partly by fear of being misunderstood and ending up in some strange suburb) to walk across to the road from the domestic airport area to the main road? where there is no lineup for a taxi. (Thousands of them rushing by) No need to stand in the taxi-stand waiting in the lineup with their 50 baht surcharge.
I had a feeling that things would time just right, even if I stood in the lineup.
If only I felt confident in the taxi drivers to understand me saying, ?sai Dai? (south bus-station in Thai). I had a feeling I?d get a taxi driver that didn?t have a clue what I wanted or would take me to some strange suburb somewhere.
I was standing in the lineup when a taxi driver covertly walks over to me and quietly says, ?where you go??
?South bus-station.?
?450bat? he said quickly.
I looked at him, incredulously partly smiling and said, ?no thanks.?
That would be about 2 to 3 times more expensive then a meter fair; Plus about another 130 for toll ways etc.
Better not to get into a taxi where there is a touch of dishonestly? who knows where I would end up?
On the expressway, in a taxi from the lineup, it?s going really well, until suddenly so many crunching sounds coming from the underside of he car. Crunching, banging, grinding sounds vibrating from under the car as the taxi driver slowed down to a crawl on the expressway.
?sorry, sorry, ??, the taxi driver said traveling a 5k onto the off-ramp into Victory monument area.
I thought, Next time take a look at the taxi before jumping in? I?m usually picky about getting into a new taxi because it usually gives you a smooth and comfortable ride. I had jumped into a station wagon that?s probably more then 20 years old?
Hello traffic jam?. ;-) I mussed as I jumped into the next taxi.
?Sai Dai khrup?. ?put passa ungrit dai mai?? I say in my very poor thai.
?Nitnoi khrup? the driver said and then things were going well again, apart from having a feeling that I would miss that bus I had a feeling for.
This taxi was in good working order yet it also only traveled at 5 k doing a part circle around The National Monument. Funny that. This taxi was shinny and new :--)
That next day 8am flight to krabi was sounding a better option then getting on a normal vip bus at 840pm. I was 10minutes late from getting the 730 24 seater bus?
?Mai pen rai?, I smile as I visit my favorite snack place 7/11 and find 1 packet of vegetarian noodles!! Wow.. I thought this would be an impossible find at a 7/11 anywhere in this world? but there it was and soon happily consumed with a happy smile.
ON the 12hour bus? my moving sleeping hotel. Forget about using the toilet though, it?s not worth the consequences?.
Krabi bus station is out of town and there is always people around that want to give you a room and free transport. There is the blue songthows to take you to town for a small amount of money though.
Or there is a ?taxi? (some guy with a car) who would be very happy to take you to AoNang or krabi town for around 500bat. ? Taxi? where you go? ? ;-)
