visa is easy.. just leave the country and come back in for a simple 30 day extension which an be repeated.

Other option is to apply for tourist Visa which is up to 90 days, costs more ofcourse and there are more restrictions on where you can get it and how.

Everyday you are in thailand past your Visa date, you will be charged 200 baht to a maximum or something like 20,000 baht, but then i think you go to prision :P

there are plenty of sites on the net fully explaining all the deatails, lots of agencies within thailand and i guess lots of people with experience in what you seek.

Cambodia is a popular destination, ''Poi Pet'' border for a quick fix 30 day tourist Visa. The cost is 1000 baht on the border for a 30 day cambodian visa, which you must use but can then almost instantly return to thailand to claim your new thai 30 -day Visa.

Casino tours go to PoI Pet several times a day from places like Bangkok and other places daily for 100-200 baht per head on a 1st class air-con bus. You can ofcourse also go to your nearest bus station.

You'll probably find all the answers you need at http://www.thaivisa.com. If you can't get your visa extended (30 days for 1,900 baht - apply at Immigration Soi Suan Plu) then yes, you'll have to exit Thailand and come back. But that gets you a tourist visa. If you want to work you'll need a Non-Immigrant Type B visa. Your employer can help you to get the documents needed to do that. Good luck.
