Bangkok Post Writes How-To Guide For Using Illegal Documents

Question

For anybody who is too stupid to figure out how to use/abuse the fake ID's you can buy on Khao San Road, the Bangkok Post tells you how.

The diplomat said that a stolen or lost passport obtained in Thailand - with corroborating fake ID, such as an EU driving licence or company or national health card - made it possible to enter an EU country. The holder of the stolen or lost passport must make sure they do not enter the country that issued the passport, as it would have been reported to that country's immigration authorities.

"A person travelling from Bangkok, for example, with a stolen French passport would be arrested upon arrival in France but could enter Germany or other EU countries because their immigration departments don't have a record of passports stolen from citizens of other countries," he said. "Unfortunately, EU countries don't share information on stolen passports. This is a big problem," the diplomat added.

And

Pol Lt Col Sanya said there are three or four large gangs and a number of small ones comprising people of different nationalities who coordinate between the brokers and forgers.

''The brokers will look for customers, while the forgers from independent groups will be contacted by different gangs that manufacture or alter passports,'' he said

''The biggest gang in Thailand comprises nationals from one Middle East country. They are now controlling the illegal passport business in Thailand.''

He added that the fake IDs and passports were used for multiple purposes including smuggling narcotics, human trafficking and financial fraud.

''It is now widespread in Thailand and used to open bank accounts through which laundered money is transferred from abroad,'' he said adding they are also used to establish a false identity in order to escape prosecution.

Mr Piek said the forgers are Thais and foreigners from a South Asian country.

He said they were in competition for business and mainly operated around Sukhumvit Soi 3 and in Pattaya.

Anybody up for a trip down to Khao San or Soi 3? :-)
