Handling Thai Police

It's common knowledge that in Thailand you should ..

1.Keep cool.

2.Don't lose your temper.

3.Don't shout or raise your voice.

4.Don't cause anyone to lose face.

It's been my experience that Thai society is basically fair and in the event of a problem the police will listen to both sides of a dispute before reaching a conclusion. This is provided that you haven't made an arse out of yourself or seriously angered some of the locals.

Don't think that you're automatically guilty to start just because you're a Farang ... so start by being polite and smiling a lot. This is half the battle. I reckon (told by others who have had to pay) you're best off paying up without a fuss (after a bit of haggling) because you don't really want to get taken down to the pig-pen, once they start the paperwork you are in deep ****.(hassle wise)

I've been stopped heaps of times by the police and when they see it's a Farang it's either a quick "move along" motion with the hands or you have a bit of a laugh with them. Never had a problem.

Anyone ever had any "unfair" treatment by the Boys in Brown?

^ That works too! ;) ... but so far I haven't given a single Satang to a copper here.

Here's my latest run in with them .. and all they wanted was a pic taken with me .. so I grabbed this one on my mobile phone camera too.
