miles
Im getting super bored doing the same old things in Bangkok. I'm looking for some ways to kill a hot afternoon doing something that doesn't neccesarily involve getting drunk. I like to gamble sometimes and someone once suggested I check out the horse racetrack in Bangkok. I cant find any info, anyone know where it is? What days are there races? Do they take bets? Is it worthwhile? Some of the things I have found in Bangkok to do in the afternoon include: Suan Siam waterpark(sic?), wandering around the hand made clothes shoppes in Silom, Renting a boat and checking out the Chao Praya River, going to an old folks home or orphanage and cheering someone up, wandering through JettuJak market, paintball on Suk soi 62. Suggestions are totally welcome as I am climbing the walls of my condo most afternoons thinking of what I can do that doesn't involve a bottle of 100 Pipers. PS: Where can I ride my mountainbike in a park type setting?? This is so easy to do in Canada but with the traffic here I am wondering why I even bought a bike. Loburt
There are two race tracks in Bangkok. One is at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club on Henri Dunant Road, you can actually see the track from the Skytrain along Rajdamri Road. The other is the Royal Turf Club on Sri Ayutaya Road across from Chitrlada Palace. They race on alternating days, but don't know the schedule. Of course there's gambling. No one would show up if there wasn't. Lots of fixed races, I've heard though. Don't know if there is a season and if we're in or out of it. Good luck. Whoooaaaa, Seabiscuit! Lots of mountain biking going on. Check Metro or Falang magazines. There are some mountain biking clubs around.
miles
Wow finally a response. Thanks Loburt. I too have heard some races are fixed but that is the story at any racetrack. I heard it is really bad here so I guess I will be picking the longshots 2 mins before every race. Sounds expensive. Will check it out this Sunday maybe as I heard they race starting at noon at one of those places. PS: Where specifically are people mountainbiking that is not too far from Suk 22? As in I can ride my bike there and back.
