Well, after most of a FANTASTIC race season in MotoGP, with just two rounds to go (Phiip Island and Valencia) Valentino Rossi seems to have done what everybody was dreaming, but nobody thought that he would do: Win the title his first year out on the Yamaha. Watching him WILL his bike to the front has just been an astounding personal inspiration for me. By far, MotoGP and WRC are the best international motosports on offer these days. Any other fans here?

Yes mate there are a lot of MotoGP fans out there and I am certainly one of them. Keep riding and ensure you keep the black rubber things on the road, stay safe and happy riding.

Thanks so much, same to you. Ago really did ride by himself much of the time, but on occasion when he had someone decent to race with he beat them as often as not. Angel Nieto won, what 13 world championships too, and countless race wins, but I cannot imagine either touch Rossi's talent. By the time Rainey won his Titles, there was really only Schwantz to do battle with, and he beat himself out of too many championships. Doohan, Also great, nobody to really challenge him. Rainey actually said a nasty thing about Rossi, that he needed people like him(rainey) to challenge him to see how good he really is, which implies that all the others are wankers... :( and that his greatness is not so apparent... Sounds like sour grapes to me. Roberts senior was great in all forms of bike racing, won in the dirt as well as pavement. I think that Rossi on a Ducati was a great idea, but it may not have turned out so well as it has for him this year. Never saw that coming, that Ducati would be worse than Yamaha this year. Keep safe, and take care mate - Japhy

ah, a LAME. i fix hawks in saudi

rossi has been absolutely inspirational this year on a bike which isn't suited to most tracks. he should go good at phillip island this weekend

yamahas have always had good engines, they are usually among the fastest thru the speed traps. but don't know who makes their frames cos they haven't usually been the sweetest handling things

lots of people have tried to muscle them (abe, max) but the maestro has worked out how to get the best out of them this year. they still don't handle but rossi's magic has maked it work this year

my post 70's best riders list would have to include wayne gardner, doohan (how he rode some of those races with his injuries was so amazing), wayne rainey, kevin schwantz, gary mccoy, aaron slight, barry sheene, greg hansford just to name a few

WRC? rally? give me superbikes also

chris vermuellen will be a name of the future also

I dont agree about the Yamahas being fast, but ill handling machines. The Yamahas up until this year, have been slow, with both Ducati and Honda outpacing them in a straight line. Yamaha has always been good in the chassis department, especially since they purchased Ohlins, the Swedish suspension firm, in the 80's. I think that Yamaha up until this year has struggled with a peaky engine that made it difficult to ride. They revised the layout, making it fire like two parallel twins and that seems to have helped everything. Rossi makes up ground by snaking a tighter line, turning under and still finishing the corner on the power. The Yamaha lacks stability compared to the Honda, but it seems like they set it up to take full advantage of its strengths, and let Rossi deal with the weaknesses of the package. I loved seeing McCoy slide around too, but he's languishing in the mid pack in world supers this year :( and Slight

really never got the credit he deserved, That head injury ended his career on a bad note, he could have won some titles I'm sure. Vermuelen, yes indeed, cant wait to see him have a shot at GP in 2006.

Yeah, Hailwood was a true great. Didn't mean to exclude him per se, just shooting my mouth off about some great riders in general. By all accounts, Hailwood was probably one of the most naturally gifted riders, ie he could hop on any bike, and size on any tires at any circuit and usually win. Its so hard to compare riders of different eras and so forth, pretty much anyone who has won multiple world titles is a hero. And yeah, for Hailwood to do it after such a long break, on an air cooled, long wheelbase Ducati no less, jeez mate.
