DocDre
Mini dvd is o.k. if you just want to "record", mini DV gives you a host of better options incuding editting,(capturing the video content is easier) Abobe Premiere 2.0 (6.5 is fine as well) are GREAT if you want to edit your material, DV is also great if you want to format the content to be web friendly, as in posting on a web site, or sending as an attachment in an e-mail, you have a host of options with the DV. I use PD-150's and PD-170's mostly ( the cameras used for most reality shows), and HD's when it's obligatory.Sometimes BETA (still REALLY good quality but bulky when filming without a tri-pod) All but the Beta are mini dv format and I swear by them. I'm sure DVD format has it's fans but mini DV has become an industry standard and will give you more product options as the industry expands. You also have more to choose from, more competitors also means competative prices for the consumer, you should be able to get a good price! I hope this helps a bit. frenchinbkk
I think if you have to make a choice I'd go for mini dv. But when I wanted to buy a new camcorder I made the choice of having a built-in Hard Drive, for the convenience, no more mini-dv or dvd to take with you. So I bought a JVC Everio with 20GB hard drive, when I record, it creates video files in MPEG format. The quality is very good, you can select ultra fine, fine, normal or economic. You can record several hours with top quality and over 20 hours in lesser quality formats. The price was in your range for mine.
