Goodbye MTV and VH1

Well it seems official, MTV and VH1 have pulled out of Thailand. This after Bangkok hosting the MTV Asia music awards earlier this year. This falls on the heels of low ratings (so I've been told).

Is channel V really better than MTV or VH1? I liked MTV just because they actaully covered good young Thai artists..Thaitanium, Ebola, Joey Boy, Modern Dog,etc. :D

I guess it's Thai boy bands with Japanese style haircuts from now on if you want to watch a music channel, (Channel V's default format)

Channel V has got to be my least favourite. Anyone know a little more about this situation? Any opinions are welcome as there is almost no press material released.

MTV & VH1 did not pull out of Thailand. The exclusive deal with UBC-True has come to an end. Since True took over UBC they have been trying to use this monopoly position in BKK to market their own products/channels.. True music or something is one of them.. In fact UBC-True is starting to produce more and more programs themselves thereby creating unfair (as they are both the station and the cable/sat company) competition.

I read that MTV was signing a deal with smile tv or something. A bunch of independent cable company's with it's aim to double the amount of subscribers from the curren half a million to a million by next year's end.

It will be possible to subscribe to a 6-channel MTV Group package that requires another set top box.

I think channel V is far superior to MTV or VH1.

MTV is the one that plays all the crap.PLus the feed is usually from Singapore and it repeats far too often. If you want real THai...Ive seen plenty on the local channels..3, 7, 11...

Ive seen videos on Channel V ive never seen anywhere else, including MTV is the U.S. I first saw Futon on Channel V...plus Underworld....Death in Vegas..many oher alternative stuff MTV or VH1 would never touch.

Are they crazy??? VH1 is one of my favourite channels at UBC. According to what I've read in the nation online its because of some polls UBC conducted so they kicked them out, but I dont buy this BS.

I'll request from UBC that they remove majung and the other unnecessary replacement channels (this 5th animal channel and this other channel hell knows what its good for) from my subscription as I dont want to get exposed to this stuff by force while zapping :x
