What I'd really like to know, is if the Thai women have bought into this western idea sham about wanting diamonds, or do they still prefer a bhat or two of gold instead? As gold is an element (Au) it is going to be much rarer than a diamond would be I would think. They are finding more and more diamonds every day, hell, they can even make them! That and the DeBeers have been hoarding dimaonds and controling the diamond market for decades. The prices on them are artifical, and the resale value on them is about like that of a new car once you walk out of the jewlery store with one. You're better off with a new car (I prefer trucks of course) because you will get more use out of it. How often do you need to scratch or cut glass anyways? Yeah, diamonds are beautiful, and you can make really cool laser satillites like in James Bond movies, but isn't gold more usefull and a better investment? khun_lung Posted February 6, 2005 Report Share Posted February 6, 2005 personally, i picked diamond over gold. somehow gold looks cheap compared to diamond. i dont have good knowledge about diamond, and i bet it's hard to differentiate genuine and counterfeit, only pro can tell. but hmm.. if only you have the heart to get me a simple diamond ring(even if it's fake) and propose over candle light dinner this valentine-----that'll do! :wink: Awwww Cherry...come out from behind that silly beach pic and show your real self! Remember that Thailand is the real Magic Kingdom (not just for foreigners) and all things are possible. Who'd have believed that an old guy like me could make it into the top 5 of TF, if only for a day? But this IS the Magic Kingdom! Ya just have to believe! The diamond trade is controlled by a cartell smaller than OPEC. What disgusts me more is conflict diamonds where people are killed for not mining diamonds. People also have there arms, legs, hands, and feet cut off. The warlords of Africa do this to the people they have made their slaves. Jame Bond had a movie centered on this problem. I will never buy a new diamond. If I ever buy one, I will only buy one that was made into jewlry years ago that way I am not supporting the mining of conflict diamonds. To stir the pot some, since men tend to be more logical concerning investments, and women tend to be more emotional concerning the same. I'm trying to fight the freaking DeBeers syndicate here by getting out the word on these diamond nazis and I need y'alls focus on it. That being said, i like the silver toe ring idea, sexy, and it'll hold the value better than a diamond, provided that you wash off the 'toe funk' before you sell it of course.
