Not sure how this virus came to be on my computer, but it's a bloody pest. I searched everywhere for it but couldn't find it -- got some instructions over the web about how to remove it manually, but wanted time to backup files before I attempted it. (Neither Spyhunter nor Spybot seemed to get rid of it). But AVG have now finally picked up on it and a few moments ago, I updated -- lo and behold! svchosts.exe has now been virus-vaulted. At last. So if anyone has picked up this pest, I suggest you update your AVG. If you don't have AVG, then get it: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php Get Sygate firewall, while you're about it. http://www.sygate.com/products/sygate-personal-firewall-pro.htm Both free. AVG (if you've updated it recently) will get rid of svchosts.exe. I also run Sygate firewalll, Spybot, Spyhunter (licensed version) and AVG. Rid Posted February 23, 2005 Report Share Posted February 23, 2005 Hahah......svchost.exe is not a virus.......PLS DONT DELETE IT....The main place for virus to be stored is the registery of your computer, so thats where you have to remove it.(But pls becareful, if you dont have any technical idea dont do it)..if you think your infected with virus.....first scan your pc with a good antivirus softwares such as Nortan Antivirus. Update it with the latest virus definitions. then scan it and if it finds any virus. Go to web and get the removal information from the web. it will give u instruction to delete it.OK..this is website that will help you get the removal information. http://www.symantec.com/ OR http://www.symantec.com/search/ Trust me, i have dont this many time because i am the lab incharge in my company......and i had a day where in my 35 machine all infected with virus.. virus get easy spread in Network especially the worm. if you cant find the information to delete the virus.......just send me message with the virus name and i will help you fix it......... ok......i have to go 0_o!!!!!!!! Arkon Posted March 7, 2005 Report Share Posted March 7, 2005 This is just part of a nice adware and spyware programm. Normally comes in keygenerator dowloads and patches fopr illegal copies. Check your running processes and checxk your programm files folder, that little file never comes alone, it just reinitialises the spyware that it supports. No need to format it, everything that you have you can get rid of. Tell me how you know you have a virus, where do yuou think you got it. Which anti virus tool do you use? do you have any anti trojan or anti spyaware software? If you have popups come all of a sudden, i need to know which ones.
