The order of the Buddhist monkhood is cheapened when they allow child molesters to stay within their ranks. If a monk can be defrocked for attacking another monk over a petty former romantic rivalry, as was the case reported in September, certainly the monk from Phayao mentioned in the article "Victims of rape at age 14, 9, 5..." (Bangkok Post, Oct 17), ought to be defrocked for this much more serious violation of repeatedly raping a 5-year-old girl.

While I'm disappointed that Michael Owen has opted to sign for Newcastle, and will find it extremely weird seeing him in black and white, I am not heartbroken, angry or indeed surprised. In fact, I'm just pleased he hasn't signed for any of our direct rivals or 'enemies'.
I find it hard to take Newcastle seriously, and this doesn't change that too much. As one journalist so brilliantly put it over the summer, Newcastle gather 'trophy players', not trophies. Here's another.

DOMINANT REDS FORCED TO SETTLE FOR A POINT
Liverpool were unable to make their dominance pay against 10-man Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday and had to settle for a point in their opening Premiership game of the season.
The Reds were easily the better side and will count themselves unlucky not to have returned from Teeside with the win their performance deserved.
In a game of few clear-cut opportunities the European Champions always looked most likely to break the deadlock

Skysports.com understands that Liverpool have succeeded in hijacking Everton's move for Valencia star Mohamed Sissoko.
The Mali international midfielder had seemed poised to join Everton after The Toffees had thrashed out a ?7.4 million deal with their Spanish counterparts.
Sissoko was preparing to fly to Goodison Park to put the finishing touches to the deal, but, as had been predicted in some quarters, Liverpool have sneaked in and trumped their Merseyside rivals with a counter-offer.
