Great Prices Await Visitors at the Bangkok Fair

The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association announced good news for visitors to the 39th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair after the US government agreed to extend Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) status to Thailand for two years. (January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008.)

GSP status ensures that prices for jewelry at the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, February 28 - March 4, 2007, will remain competitive as it allows Thai manufacturers to export specified goods duty-free to the US market.

GSP privileges may be canceled at the end of June 2007 if the quantity in the product category exceeds 187.5 million dollars, which would allow the US to revoke a competitive needs limit (CNL) waiver for that GSP product.

However, visitors still have a chance to buy big in a near-to-nothing tax rate from this upcoming 39th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair since the GSP is ensured for all Thai jewelry items until June 30, 2007.

For jewelry products with exports to the US well below the limit, such as sliver jewelry valued not over 18 dollars per dozen, GPS status is still ensured.

For products such as gold jewelry, for which Thailand's exports to the US exceed the limit, and silver jewelry valued over 18 dollars per dozen, for which Thailand's exports to the US are at borderline, the TGJTA is working on negotiations with the US government to continue Thailand's GSP status.

The Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair has established itself as one of The World’s Favorite Gem & Jewelry Destinations of top gem and jewelry professionals through the efforts of Thailand’s skilled and talented workforce, beautiful natural resources and a world-class manufacturing center capable of producing jewelry to fit every taste. Thailand is also one of the world’s foremost cutting and trading centers for diamond and colored gemstones making the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair an excellent choice for all your gem and jewelry needs. Bangkok is also one of the most exciting and exotic cities in the world to host a gem and jewelry fair with every modern convenience nestled right in alongside ancient Thai culture.

Starting with September 2006, the Bangkok fair will move to the spectacular “Challenger Hall”, a state-of-the-art 80,000 square meter exhibition center. The new venue features column-free exhibition space with world-class security features.

The co-organizers, the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association and the Department of Export Promotion, expect to host over 1,500 exhibitors and specialty pavilions from 30 countries presenting offering the largest range of products found at any gem and jewelry exhibition in the world. The co-organizers were encouraged to expand the venue to accommodate the many exhibitors waiting to acquire booth space in this popular event. The expansion will also make way for more international pavilions, more special exhibits, more special events, and more facilities and conveniences.

Come discover why more than 30,000 buyers around the world never miss the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair. The excitement begins September 13-17, 2006 when the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair opens its doors on the biggest and best show in Asia in an all new exhibition hall.
