I also had a Nokia mobile phone.I always bring it with me. Today evening I went to the library of social science department coz the air condition there is not too cold for me. I went there for serfing too. I put my nokia on the table, thinking it was o.k. coz I will sit there and keep track on it. But suddently the internet was unavailable, so I went away, walking just 4 steps to check with the computer 's library in order to see if the network went down. Seemed like it went down, so I walked to pick up newspaper to read. When I came back to read, I reckoned something strange. Where is my phone? Nowhere! As I can't remember my own number, I call my friend to call my number. It was turned off. Damn! There were a group of guys who sit near me too. I was shocked and I was reluctant if I should ask them or not. I told the staff instead. She said that I got to be careful, otherwise the belonging will be gone. I suspected the studnets who sit near me but I was too awkward to ask the staff if I can check their pockets. Anyway, my phone costed like 1,000 Baht. So I will just let it go this time coz my carelessness should also got some rewards. But I have like 317 Baht left in my 1-2 Call.. Now I do not want to go to that library again. It was such an ordeal to lose the mobile phone. Bangkok is so dangerous for an optimistic girl like me. I have been somewhat sceptic of those social scientists lecturer who support the junta, but I forgot to become sceptic of their students. I wish that the person who took my phone will be cheated by their partner, and there is nobody for that person to love! Do you think I can get my number together with the money in the phone back? But I somehow also do not want to use mobile phone any longer. Nobody calls me that often. They could make a call to my apartment's phone. Trying to be optimistic, my qtek s200 is still here. But I do not dare to bring it out with me. I found out that here my qtek is called O2 mini (which it is quite popular.) And the good new of the day is that the owner of my apartment just come in the evening and add my mac address to the wireless network. He also asked if my pocket pc is O2....

Sorry to hear that. I'm lucky because my first mobile phone was a Bosch, a very cheap one. I left it in an internet cafe for a few seconds and somebody stole it and dissapeared, but it was a good lesson, I haven't lost anymore mobiles since then and that was about 8 years ago :)

Everywhere is dangerous....but don't lose your optimism. Your optimism is what will propel you through life to higher achievement levels. Regardless where you are. And don't sweat losing a 1000 Baht phone. It could have been far worse or more expensive. Just get another phone and chalk up the event as a learning experience. Cheers.

to niche and duanja... sorry for both of your bad luck. Remember to be mroe careful it's the same every where some people do not want to work for what they get also if you think you have been wronged stand up and say so!

All it takes for bad people to succeed is for good people to say nothing.

Losing 1500 baht is better than losing 15,000 baht! I bought my ex-gf a brand new Nokia fone, and within 2 weeks, she lost it somewhere? Bought her another one, and can only wonder if she still has it?

Duan Ja & Khun_lung : FYI : Sure the AIS staff will restore the balance but Duan' ja you have to inform AIS know immediatly that you cellphone have stolen and then gp to the police station to report them and you have to bring the paper to AIS shop. I had this kind exprerience before several times.

I don't understand it. I have read many journals of people in Thailand either losing or having their phones stolen. Why? I have never lost or had mine stolen in the US and have never had that happen to friends either. In fact, I almost never hear or read about this in the US. What is the difference? More thieves in Thailand? Bigger penalty for losing them in the US? Less time on public transportation or in taxis in the US? Any ideas?

Most people use cellphones in the USA are paid monthly with a credit account, not like in Asia, where the marjority maybe with sim cards and have prepaid calls available for anyone to use, whether it's the owner or the person that gets their hands on a phone.......we can call the company (AT&T, Sprint, etc) to stop the phone service on our acct..........
