Weird Dream
Last night I had a very weird dream, not that most dreams are normal in any case, but this one was also odd in the fact that I remember it as well…something I very rarely do.
I was in a bar (no surprise there) in Bangkok somewhere. It was not a girlie bar or anything like that, just a bar in a large club-like place.
I was standing at the bar with a beer and I suddenly realised that one of the girls behind the counter was taking off all her clothes (OK, so this is sounding more like a girlie bar admittedly). I thought that I should tell my mate Allan who was sitting nearby, but around a corner, so I walked to where he was sitting. When I went to speak to him I found that actually it wasn’t Allan, but just someone who looks like him. I remember that I wondered why I would have thought it was Allan because he lives in Brisbane.
For some reason I decided to tell this guy and his mate about the girl at the bar, as maybe they were going to start some sort of show. When I told him about it, he said that he had been here a lot before, so he didn’t need to see it.
I made a comment that I wasn’t very interested either, then went back to the bar to get my beer. A lot of people were standing near the bar where I had been before, so I had to search around for my glass (see? This is obviously a nightmare, as I would NEVER put down a beer and walk off in real life), but couldn’t be sure which was mine, so I decided to order a new one.
When I ordered my drink, I realised that it was probably Happy Hour as I noticed they were selling a lot of cans of Heineken, so I called after the barman to change the order, but he had gone to the other end of the bar.
A drunk chap standing next to me called out to the barman in Thai to change my order, and as he knew the barmans name I realised he was a regular, and as he spoke in Thai I knew he was another expat. I also noticed that he asked for Heineken Red (no such animal as far as I know in real life) so I turned and said to him in Thai that I wanted the normal green one. He did not seem surprised that I had spoken to him in Thai (I have no idea why I would do that with another English speaking farang, but anyway…) and we then had a short conversation during which I told him that I had been in Bangkok for 15 years (quite true).
The beer seemed to be taking a long time and I glanced down at my watch, noticing it was about 7pm, and I realised that last orders for Happy Hour were closed (the only place I could have got that 7pm time from is the final orders for the Heineken promotion at the Bulls Head on a Friday – also probably where the Heineken part came from, except at the Bulls Head it is bottles). I was a bit annoyed at the time taken for the order too.
I looked up and noticed that there were not as many people in the bar as before, so for some reason I checked my watch again, only to find that it was now after 8pm! When I looked up, I saw that the bar was almost empty and again looked at my watch and saw that it was 9.30pm….(weird huh?)… now when I looked up the place was almost in darkness…there was no-one there, so I walked into the other section of the bar (to find my friend I guess)…it was pitch dark, but I eventually saw two “security dogs” (WTF?) and so decided to go back to the main bar…where I bumped into some staff who confirmed that it was well after 2am and the bar was closed, so I went outside and as I opened the front door I walked out into the early morning sunrise…
What an odd dream…time compression…odd things going on…I felt distinctly weird when I woke from that I can tell you…
I am not posting this in the hope of an explanation…I don’t believe in all that stuff…this is obviously my mind sorting through the detritus of the last few weeks and trying to make sense of it so it can be filed…or binned…actually maybe this was me just checking the “Recycle Bin” of my mind…haha!
Hope I didn’t bore you too much…if you made it this far, thanks for reading..and …
Sweet dreams… J
