A survey from one of the country's top universities has revealed students who have the most sex get the worst results.

The online study published in the student magazine Varsity asked over a thousand members in various colleges at Cambridge University in depth about their sex lives.

It revealed students at poorly-performing colleges are more likely to be sleeping around.

Students studying medicine are among those who have the most sexual partners compared to mathematicians who had the fewest.

Peterhouse, the University's oldest college, came near the bottom in the 2007 Tompkins Table, but 3rd in the promiscuity table, beaten only by Fitzwilliam and Homerton Colleges.

At Homerton, the worst performing college in the academic league table, students have had on average seven sexual partners.

Christ's College, second in last year's Tompkins list, reported the highest number of virgins, with over a quarter of respondents never having had sex.

Christ's also reported the lowest usage of recreational drugs, a category which Clare topped, where over half of the students admitted to being users.

The average for drug use through the university was just over a quarter.

The results also revealed a range of activity according to subject choices.

Almost half of all mathematicians have never had sex, whereas the average medic has had at least eight sexual partners.

Cambridge University Students Union President Mark Fletcher seemed unsurprised by the findings. He said: "It's obvious that the mathematicians haven't found the winning formula yet. But it's'good to see that Doctors and Nurses is still a popular game.

"Surprisingly for such a similar subject, vets come near the bottom of the table, with fewer than two average sexual partners per student. Perhaps their preference for animals extends into the bedroom.

Far from its nerdy reputation, the findings show Cambridge to be a vibrant, sexually active university, in some cases surprisingly so. Sixty per cent of those who have had sex have done it outdoors, and a quarter have tried S&M. But only 15 per cent have engaged in group sex.

The world famous King's College emerged as the kinkiest college, as well has having the highest proportion of gay and bisexual students.

Downing emerged as the straightest college, with only 3 per cent of gay and bisexual students, well down on the figure of 16 per cent for the University as a whole.

so the bottom line....

George bush having a C can be taken in a WHOLEEEE new light! hahahaha

Out of curiosity, where did Gonville and Caius sit (or lie) in the promiscuity table? I know the position of Caius in the Tompkins.

Ummm, the bush would never have been admitted to any college of Cambridge. Being the 'legacy' of James Smith Bush, Prescott Sheldon Bush, and George Herbert Walker Bush is what got the bush admitted to Davenport College at Yale.

Pleasant, little and decidedly frustrated chaps with a future in journalistic policemanship utilizing a dead-accurate, uhh, electron microscope... don't pay them any attention, paulgh3rd...bring on the drivel.

Having a science and law background makes me very skeptical of research results. Case in point, based on what the article claims "lots of sex leads to poor grades and no sex produces excellent grades", I say that I should have been a standout student back in college. But I wasn't. Hee, hee, hee......
