I know these bands have been around quite a while now, but they both have new albums out + often get compared to one another.I had never really heard anything from Coldplay that impressed me until the recent Viva la Vida, which I liked so much I decided to check out their discography. Out of about 50 songs I kept less than 10. I find most of their songs have the same whiny emo sound with hints of Beatles influence thrown in (I [+ I'm probably the only 1] hate the Beatles).Snow Patrol songs on the other hand, have always caught my ear but I never bothered to acquire anything besides their big hits (Chasing Cars, Open your eyes, etc.). Now, that I have heard all of their albums it's difficult for me to choose a favorite song. They have changed a lot over the years. Their early stuff is rougher with a punky/grungy edge that reminds me of Sonic Youth. They even tried to throw in some scratching + sampling a la Linkin Park at one point. Now they pretty much stick to power rock ballads. Enough chatter, let's listen to some music..

Coldplay win hands down!

Snow Patrol are a decent enough band, but not a patch on Sonic Youth

(not many albums can touch Sonic Youth - Dirty)!

Both winners for me, loved Snow Patrols and Coldplays first albums. I'm really into Viva La Vida (Coldplay) at the moment.

there's been a big fuss about the new keane album being a change of direction for them- i had a quick listen at B2S yesterday and thefirst 2 tracks sound like simple minds!!
