Proto

As the rave scene developed, many offshoots of the scene emerged, especially from around '91, the increasing use of more broken beats rather than the standard 4/4.Many of the proponents of this new proto jungle/jungle scene had cut their teeth in rave before moving onto the new style, often influenced by family backgrounds and being brought up amongst a culture of  Jamaican ska and reggae. This is especially true of today's first artist and an old mucker of mine, Gerald Simpson, otherwise known as Guy Called Gerald (he took ages to think THAT name up).

second track a little more obscure, but picked this up on white label on a foray down to the big smoke for a gig. Very large rasta in a record shop in Camden kept putting piles of vinyl next to the listening post, determined to educate the 'wild man from the North' (his words not mine) on the latest Junglist tunage.Love this tune as it still retains many elements of rave so made a great crossover track.

A very widely used break in the "Guy called gerald" track.

Love the second track, that was type of sound that was around when i first started to listening to Jungle. Love it and miss it. Definitely making a note of this one.
