Melrose in LA used to be good for Record Shopping as that's the only pleasure shopping I do but not been to LA for about 8 years, loads of little boutiques down there for clothes as well.

In LA, if you want to get a little bit of talking, and shopping, with Thai people, then go to Thai town. Not hard to find, just ask anyone for directions. It is the biggest Thai community on the West coast of the USA.

If you want chance to see movie stars, then have lunch, or dinner at Mr. Chows. It is expensive, but quite a few stars eat there, and you have to call up first for reservation for dinner.

Of course you want to go to Marine World, Disney Land, Knotts Berry Farm, then drive up highway 1 along the coast, and ocean.

The best viewing in Oregon is driving along highway 1, great little towns for seafood, nice beaches, nice lighthouses, slow relaxed driving with beautiful ocean views. Lincoln City in the middle of Oregon on highway 1 has pier out over ocean, good food, casino, and is a nice stopping spot if you are driving.

frankly I would skip LA (never high on my list) and inject San Fansico ....Or sub in SF somehow!!!

check out Monteray on the Cali coast 2 hours South of SF

and yes even though it is winter go to Yosmite National Park (bus or train from SF or driving is best) ...the most beautiful place I have seen.

Oregon coastline is very pretty (maybe in winter too)

Hope you enjoy your time and our country......... lucky you!

In Oregon, the coastline is quite beautifull. Cannon Beach is a small beach town very famous for the spectacular views of the ocean.

In L.A. go to Santa Monica, Venice Beach, UCLA, Westwood. The Getty museum : http://www.getty.edu/

If you drive, take the coastal highway from L.A going north stop in Santa Barbara, Monterey.

S.F. is one of the most beautiful city in the USA.

Enjoy your holiday.

This is unusual - I am actually qualified to comment on this, having grown up in Los Angeles, now living in San Diego, and spent a lot of time in Oregon as my family lived there. But I will try to keep it short.

California - San Francisco is my favorite city in the world. Like a faded movie star, she can be a bit rough around the edges, but you will see things there you won't seen anywhere else (could be good or bad). I would take the ferry out to Alcatraz Island, a former prison on an island in San Francisco Bay (rent the movie Birdman of Alcatraz), and they offer tours of the prison - very powerful -you can imagine the prisoners in their cells being able to hear the sounds of fun acouple of miles across the water in the city of San Francisco. As for LA, I think Universal Studios is good, and go to Venice Beach to watch the crazy Californians. Here in San Diego we have beaches that are wide sand, and beautiful and very clean. Take a walk along the boardwalk in Pacific Beach (where I live) and watch more crazy Californians. Sea World is also good.

Oregon - as others have said the coast is beautiful so take a trip down the coast. It will probably be raining but you won't care, because you can stop for some clam chowder!! If it is sunny you will think you have died and gone to heaven.

PM me if you want more specific information
